Rugermk2
Here's a picture of my old buddies bow kill this year, thought You all might like it. Killed it south of where I used to work about 1/2 a mile. There has to be more of these monsters lurking somewhere in the state.

hoosierhunter
if other states would wake up to what illinois is doing with their gun season we all would see deer like that. The problem is the average hunter doesn't care about bagging a monster buck, they just care about shooting any buck and therefore they aren't willing to sacrifice hunting time for quality of deer

As close as i got was stumbled upon a steaming pile of crap!! Maine is the state for all the bioligists who have a "f" average in college!!UGGGHHHH!! Randyman
if other states would wake up to what illinois is doing with their gun season we all would see deer like that. The problem is the average hunter doesn't care about bagging a monster buck, they just care about shooting any buck and therefore they aren't willing to sacrifice hunting time for quality of deer Unfortunately, Deer like this have pretty much priced the average Illinois resident out of owning or even leasing any reasonable amount of ground in most of the state. Anymore it is hard to find hunting ground for less than $3500 an acre or so and most of the time you'll have to pony up much more than that. Our reputation for Bucks like the one posted is the worst thing that has ever happened to Deer hunting in Illinois, IMHO. A reputation for oversized Bucks is a double edged sword. It's a case of "watch what you ask for, you just might get it"! Nice Buck, rugermk2! Congrats to your Buddy! I don't see a thing wrong with any one shooting a smaller buck. If your happy with what you shoot then hey I'm happy for you. Indiana is going in the right direction with the one buck rule. I have seen a bunch of bigger deer over the past four years.

I have to agree with you there. I have shot a few nice bucks and would love to shoot one of this caliber, but I enjoy being in the woods and any deer that I harvest is a trophy to me. If you want to take it then take it as long as everything is legal. You should hunt by your standards not everybody elses.

davetucker
if other states would wake up to what illinois is doing with their gun season we all would see deer like that. The problem is the average hunter doesn't care about bagging a monster buck, they just care about shooting any buck and therefore they aren't willing to sacrifice hunting time for quality of deer Thats just it !!I really respect your opinion but i disagree on the shooting anything part!!! I love deer meat and have eatin it all my life!! To bag a nice deer for the freezer is always a plus for the wallet at my household!!! In the past couple of yrs i have not had to buy a single pack of red meat all throughout the winter!!If maine had that quality of deer and the deer population to be able to go out and pick and choose than yes i wouldn't just bag the first buck that walks by!!! But for meat sakes for now i will take the first deer i see whether it's a spike or a swamp buck!!In northern maine they didn't even give any doe tags out this yr!! We can't be picky here i been hunting now for 3 wks and have seen two doe!! In most places like ill, indiana, iowa, montana, everywhere but maine you can go out everyday and atleast see a doe a day!!
