It varies widely in Pa my home state I have stands i walk 300 yards to and then i have one that i hike in over a mile. I also hunt in WV. since my hunting is on public land i like to put some distance between me and the other hunters. About 3 years ago I hunted the cranberry glades back country my I backpacked my climber in over 4 miles. Where i hunt now i hunt one area that is about a mile hike and another that is 3 to 4 miles depending on what side of the ridge i hunt. No motorized vehicles is awesome for getting away from hunters Ussually i have to leave an hour to an hour and a half extra to get to these areas. the longer ones can be 2 plus since WV is up and down.

I am curious. How far does everyone walk to their stand locations?

The stand I currently hunt I have about a 3/4 mile walk. It is 1/2 mile walk through a cut bean field and then about 300 yards in the woods.

It kind of deters me from just shooting anything knowing the type of drag that I will have.

Make sure you only shoot little ones.....lol.

Actually, I have had stands that were about a mile in and stands that were very close to the road as well as stands that are super close to my house and barn. I have no set rule. I go where the best deer sign is. Of course, as I get older, I do have to consider the drag so some of the ridiculously long walks of my youth have been substantially reduced now in my 66th year. I also have an ATV to get me to the top of the hill, so that helps.

You might ask the same question of still-hunting gun hunters. In my younger days, I used to cover so much ground that if I had ever gotten a big one, I would have had to consume it there. It was ridiculous. I never considered the practicalities of the drag. I've gotten a whole lot smarter over the years and still walk a lot farther than I should, but at least it's reasonable.
