bowhunterman1
Hey guys i havnt been on all here in awhile but how is everyobne's season going? By chance are there any guys on here from VA. I I hunt in Cumberland county here in Va. Been seeing lots of deer moving around but not any big ones......I did have a question though. How would everyone go about setting up for dog huintershe poeple around me run dogs . WE own about 60 acres and they always run deer on iot. Would it be best to set up in cover or maybe on a 4-wheel trail? Any suggestions would be great
niet32
Cover with good trails through it. I use to live and hunt in VA during dog season and the deer like to have cover to hide in and also take a break. The cover also helps to confuse the dogs. Go high in the tree and make sure you can see in the distance. Be ready! It can be quiet one minute and all of a sudden you can have 10 deer on top of you. cb11
Thats the best advice, good cover with some clear shooting lanes. I like to setup on the edge of old cutovers or grown up fields, preferably near a creek or pond. Just be ready for anything, from my experience if you hear the dogs coming the deer is most likely right on top of you.
Grady269
You can kill deer on 1 acre if it's where they like ot cross when they are being run. Pay attention to where dogs cross your property, it will be close to the same area a lot of times. Pay attention to your scent control and get up in a tree stand. People think deer don't pay attnetion to smell when they are being run by dogs, that is just not true.
