Turkeygirl
bit the dust to me and my Hoyt! So here's the much awaited story and of course, photos:toot: So get in my stand this morning...barely 30 degrees. I'm in a ladder stand in this patch of woods that has a thick, large swamp on one end, that connects to the "big woods" via a creek. Andy is in the other ladder we moved to the corner where I'd been seeing the deer coming out...basically he was on the opposite side of this field. Anyway, back to me:hammer1::bat: So daylight comes...it's now after 8..Andy radios me, tells me there's a big guy out feeding in the field between us...I can't see him because I'm way back in. Eventually I guess the deer walked in behind him. So I wait and wait, I climb down real quiet to retrieve my glove I dropped when I got in:hammer1: Well at about 9am or slightly before I hear a ruckus and grunting coming about 100 yards behind me in the hemlocks bordering the swamp...then I see deer running...then I see mega 8 point...wide, thick and white racked...he was about 40 yards out then ran back in after does...well I heard them and see some does and the big 8 run through the very corner of the field I can see. Andy radios me to tell me he can see them from where he is. This goes on for a good 15-20 minutes then another mega buck comes up...just beautiful massive rack, dark colored...maybe the big 7 I have on my trail cam....well he came about 40 yards and went back in the swamp. A spike also came through behind him and a buck with both sides completely broken off! Well things quiet down, I stop shaking in my boots. It's quarter after 9...Then it happens. Around 9:30am I heard a deer coming from up in front of me and about 100-150 yards I see white tines in the sun, a buck! He's by no means a whopper compared to what I'd seen a 1/2 hour ago but I'm not going to hold back! It's a gift from God! He walks down towards me, through this patch of briars, on an old path and to the 30 yard marker. He stops...tree iver his vitals. I'm waiting, turned and sitting and bow up. Finally hem oves forward, I guess he's about 25 yards. I draw back, he stops, I put that 25 yard pin on his shoulder, maybe a little high and let it fly. I was so in the zone that I didn't even hear the hit, just saw the arrow disappear and he turns and takes off and the way he took off I knew I had to have hit him good! I watch him run off then I hear him stop and a crash...I'm pretty sure he's down so I radio Andy then sit down for a few to chill, lol. I climb down and go up to where I shot him and about 5 yards after the spot where I shot, there's blood splattered on a tree and all over after that. Anyway he went maybe 50 yards from the shot spot and I found him:) He broke my arrow in 3 pieces! But you can see the entry in the photo and it came out behind the opposite shoulder, was stopped by the opposite leg. A little low I thought but it took out his heart...When I looked, I think he was closer to 30 then 25 but hey, the arrow flew true! First blood: Really hard blood trail to follow...:bat: Hmmm...kinda looks like Christmas: What do ya know, it is, a few weeks early!!
