woodshed
Last year I shot a doe twice. After I shot it a second time I inspected the first shot holes. I couldn't understand why she stood there and didn't know she was hit. Well the entry and exit holes on the first shot were both as small as the unexpanded bullet. No blood out either. The bullet zipped through her vitals with no expansion. She just stood there looking at me! The second shot blasted her! I called remington and they said that it didn't hit bone and that can happen. He also said that bullet is for larger game and intended for deep penetration. More than a whitetail needs. What do you guys think? Is this true or is this a good bullet for deer. I use 270 WSM 150 grain. I shot a buck today with them twice. Both bullets performed normally. I don't want to change. These bullets shoot great out of my model 70. The winchester's don't shoot good at all in my gun and I haven't tried any others. thanks
coles
never used them but seems like they should work fine on whitetail. Maybe try the Federal Fusions. I believe they are made for the 270 WSM. All I have ever heard is they are accurate as can be. My girlfriend and I shoot them out of our 270 win's and I love them. Mine will shoot 3 touching. woodshed
Ok.. now I shot a small doe. It was a broadside shot at 70 yards. The bullet literally pulverized the whole chest cavity. It blasted the whole sternum off with about 5 ribs on both sides of the sternum gone from the mid point down. Basketball size hole in her side with guts hanging out. Meat blood shot and severe trauma down the center of the neck to between the shoulder blades. Severe organ trauma made the insides look like they went through a blender. This seems like way too much damage for a deer. Crazy thing still ran 100 mph for 100 yards with all this damage! Does this seem like the right bullet. They are so accurate with my gun though.
coles
It all just depends on where you hit them and which in turn determines how the bullet will expand. If you happen to thread one right between the ribs on both sides it might not open up as much as one that hits bone first. I have shot coyotes and foxes with my 22-250 and 204 and if no bone is hit normal damage is done that doesnt destroy a pelt. Now when i hit bone first, that is a whole different story usually resulting in a whole the size of a softball up to the size of a football. I was about to say dude. You must have a bad box of shells because I quit using the Accu tips because they were too devestating on the whitetail I shot. They way you described your doe, I had several deer look like that after shooting them with a 270 win 130 grain. Accutips are devestating rounds, high velocity and very accurate. My 270 loved them but they were causing too much damage so I switched to the Winchester accubonds they kill well to just don't leave the mess. Grady269
You should try the Federal Nosler ballistic Tip's. They shoot great and they kill really good.
