wildguy
Me and my dad went out on monday and we were glassing on a hill and we seen this deer way out(probably 6-700 yards). So we walk along the hill and we get to the end of it and we could see this deer again and my dad is looking through the binoculers and its a big buck. We get on the side of the hill and I take a 300 yard shot. The shot went right over its back, so i shoot again, and finaly on the fifth shot i hit it in the hip as its quartering away. It stumbles and falls to the ground, we wait 10-15 minutes and we walk up to it and we were maybe 100 yards away and it jumps up and its trying to run on three legs as its all hunched up. It goes through this swampy stuff so we had to go all the way back from where we came from and by the time we get to where we last seen it its gone. but what doesn't make sense is as we were watching it through the binoculars half its body had blood on it but when we went to where i shot it there was no blood to be found. We tried to find blood or any sign of where it had went but there was nothing, we probably did that for an hour or more. We also drove the truck all around the area of where i shot it, but nothing. Prairiepredator
That always sucks when that happens. :bummed: I guess there is just not a whole lot you can do about that. At least you tried your hardest.

Quite a bit to learn from this for you. First it sounds like you took several crack shots at a moving deer and hit him with the last one....NOT SMART Second If you knew you hit him in the rear end why in the heck did you wait 10-15 minutes to retrieve him. You should have have been on a dead run to get to him..... Some of huntings lessons are the toughest, but hopefully you learned something from this. I hope I'm wrong about a moving deer, but I can't imagine a big buck letting 5 shots go off without moving.....
wyohunter
i've seen several muleys offer a second shot, and not move a bit from the first one.... sorry you lost that deer. personally i'd still be out looking for it
