Texas Hogs

My favorite way is the spot and stalk method. A hog has poor eye sight so if you are really stealthy you can get in pretty close. Don't let that mislead you though. They still have good hearing and a good sense of smell so you still need to take your time if you are going to do a spot and stalk. Hunting over a feeder is a good way and will be a bit easier. Remember that a hog has, what I call, a sheild covering most of its vitals. It's basically a thick layer of fat and tissue but you can still put the smack down on one with a bow. Just as with any animal, pick your shot carefully.

Good luck!

I'd rather play the waiting game, I've done it both ways. The country I was in last time down there was thick and the hogs wouldn't come out during the daytime. I had to crawl right in there with them in the bedding areas. I got charged more than once. They traveled through 2x2ft. tunnels in the thorns and thickets. When they'd charge I couldn't raise up and I had nowhere to go. I did finally get a couple though after several hours of this. If I ever do that again, I'll be sure to wear a diaper.

I'm not positive about where we are going just yet. Dad just kind of told me we were going and didn't really fill me in on the details. We are headed out January 12th now instead of the 15th, for six days. Lots of hunting and fishing to be done by then. Dad has been looking into outfitters down there, but hasn't booked anything yet. We are planning on taking our rifles too and doing some predator hunting. Anybody from Texas or has been there know anything about the predators down there? How to hunt them, when, etc.. Thanks!
