okiebuck
Well, I was fortunate enough to take this deer last Saturday night. I hunted the morning and saw a few smaller bucks chasing does and grunting, it was really entertaining but didn't result in a shooter coming in. I went back out in the afternoon and did not see anything until he stepped out close to 5:20. When he stepped out from the woods into the open, I instantly had a 30 yard shot so I drew back. About that time I hear something coming form behind me right towards the buck I've drawn on. I slowly turned my head behind me and saw a smaller buck coming in, so I slowly let back on the bow and waited for another shot. A few minutes later he turned, I drew and let it go at 35 yards. He bolted back into the woods, and I heard him stop not long after. By this time it was really close to being dark. I gave him 20 minutes and started to look for a blood trail. Trouble is, I can't find my arrow or a single drop of blood at the shooting spot! I know from the sound that I hit him good, but I was beginning to doubt my shot when I could not find any sign. After about 2 hours of flashlight searching I decided to call it a night and continue the next morning. One sleepless night later I went back out at sunrise to search again. And once again, I cannot find any evidence that I put a kill shot on this buck! I decided to quit looking for the arrow and go to a creek just west of where I shot. Walking up and down the creek, which is about 15' deep, i see a white spot on the other side. It was him, and it was his white neck that caught my eye! I had shot him a little further back and lower than I wanted but it did the trick. And the temp was cool enough that night that I went ahead and cleaned him up, I couldn't stand the thought of wasting meat! I am tickled to death with him and I am hooked on bow hunting for sure now! Thanks for reading! My little girl and I My little man!
