Saskatchewan buck down - My biggest!

Well guys, this Sunday was the opening day of rifle whitetail up here in Sask, so I was able to get some time off work so I can come up to my favorite area but I only had 5 days to hunt this year. So for the first few days I had tried sitting in blinds, early morning drives(although not my favorite tactic), walking thru some nice areas but had not had any luck or really been tempted to pull the trigger. so yesterday morning we decided to go push some bush with some friends of ours and try and make something happen. this year has been unseasonably warm up here. no snow on the ground and warm weather so it hasnt been the best for hunting. but anyway, we headed to where we were going to meet the other guys and the one guy said that he saw a really nice 5x4 and had taken a couple shots at him but had missed. he saw the bush he went into so we decided to push it. so there were 4 guys walking thru the bush and myself and 2 other guys were positioned at different locations on the other side. so they started walking thru and I had some does and a couple smaller bucks bust out of the bush but nothing tempting. all of a sudden i heard crashing coming right at me(I was crouched along the edge of a bush beside a field). when i looked where the sound was coming from, here comes this big buck, nice and wide and tall, he was about 7 yards away when he smelt me or saw me and he whipped around and headed deeper into the bush. i couldnt shoot into the bush cause thats where the guys were walking from. so i had to hope he would just move farther down and come running out. about 15 seconds later he busted out and he was movin pretty good haha. i waited for him to clear one of my buddies and I took a shot, missed. the buck kept goin and jumped a fence. lined up again and shot, this time I thought I saw him flinch a bit. he kept on goin, took another shot, another miss as I saw a puff of dirt fly up and then just before he ran into another bush I took another "hail mary" shot as he was really out there but didnt touch him. so once the walkers came thru our side, of course everyone was wondering what I was shooting at and if I had hit it or not. I described the buck and we realized it was the buck that the one guy had shot at earlier that morning, the 5x4. Since I thought I had hit him, we decided to push the bush he went in. so once again me and two other guys set up at different places on the other side and the pushers started walking thru. I was along a fence line at the end of the bush where I would have anywhere from 0-350 yard shot and it was kinda brutal cause I was staring right into the sun. which made the eyes water a bit. So I waited and the first deer to come out was about a 140 class 5x5 but it wasnt the one I had shot at so I let him pass. Then later on 2 smaller bucks and a doe busted out but they were like 250 yards away running. I was just hoping the big guy wouldnt go the same way cause that would make for a real tough shot. So this whole time I could hear something moving around in a clump of willows about 50 yards away from me but it was too thick to see in there. All of a sudden I heard crashing and this rack comes out of the bush heading towards me, it was the buck I had shot at. I knew right away he was going to be close and I had like a split second to turn the power down on my scope. The buck jumped a barbwire fence to the side of me and ran past me. He was about 20-25 yards away quartering away from me and I had the chance for one shot before he was in cover again. I whipped around, thru up the gun and pulled the trigger. He hit the ground, kicked a couple times and it was done. I got him! haha. I walked up to him and he was bigger than I originally thought. Getting my my knees I thanked the Lord for this blessing he had given to me.

Initially the way he was running I thought maybe I didnt hit him the first time there but one of the guys was in the bush and found a blood trail. The first time I hit him, I hit him on the bottom of the chest cutting open about a 4 inch hole. He would have died eventually but it might have taken a while. The finishing shot, I pinned him thru the shoulder. So the rest of the guys showed up, took some pics, shook some hands and ya, he is my biggest buck yet, gross scoring 162. My uncle is a taxidermist so he will have to do him up for me lol. But ya, thats my story. Oh and the guy who initially shot at him that morning had a surprise for me. he has actually gotten trail cam pictures of my buck in August of this year in velvet. so that was just icing on the cake lol. So that concludes my hunting season and now I have to wait until spring bear unless I get out to do some coyote hunting.
