Turkeygirl
off college loans? Just went and made a payment online for my other loan from Houghton...they keep deferring it and I'm like ok, enough, I'm done with nursing, let's get Houghton paid off! So my one loan is like $110 a month and then this one I just paid is $120 quarterly...so that's every 3 months. Luckily I have no loans from nursing school because my camp job paid that off for the 2 years...it's nice:clown: Houghton though, where I got my B.S.....that's basically $16,000 to pay off...fun I know. So anyone else paying off loans? If you've finished, how long did it take you to pay them off?
Dakota
I start next year and my loans are only like $3,500 total at like $120 per month total.

Tominator
Back in the day, student loans were on a 10 year schedule with a minimum payment of $50. I paid off my one and only student loan in 2001.
jdavis
Still paying on my wife's loans, around $200/month. Still owe around 13k, I try not to think about how long it's going to take to get these paid off. We both graduated 4 years ago so it's going to be awhile before they are paid off. It will all be worth it someday, or so I'm told. I was fortunate to have my parents pay for my schooling. 13k is a whole lot better than 26k. 92xj
Back in the day, student loans were on a 10 year schedule with a minimum payment of $50. I paid off my one and only student loan in 2001. Mine is just like this. Graduated in December of 07. During school I saved up around 10k and the day I graduated I walked in and paid that 10k to my student loan. Now I have $5230 left to pay off for the next ten years with a min of $69 a month. I pay 200 everymonth on it and am saving to pay it all off by summer or fall of 2010.
RangerClay
Back in the day, student loans were on a 10 year schedule with a minimum payment of $50. I paid off my one and only student loan in 2001. I was just going to say that it took me 10 years to pay mine off. I feel sorry for todays kids and the outrageous tuition fees you have to pay out now.
c_lou
I got mine all paid off in about 8 years.

I hate to remind you of bad news, but if you don't pick up the pace, you will still be paying this one off 45 years from now. Maybe you could have them take it out of your social security check when you get to the benefits age. jk....popgun

coles
I havent had to pay for anything except for parking passes and books since my freshman year. My sophmore year i got pell grants (free money) that were $1600 each semester and my tuition was only $1500 per semester. So i was actually getting paid to go to school kinda. This last year and a half have also been covered by pell grants and other grants so i havent had to pay anything. Gotten lucky so far. Not looking forward to paying for grad school though....yuck
arrow32
I'm pretty luck got mom and dad paying for it so I went local to keep it down even more so I don't have to get loans if I don't have to:D I can get my degree here anyway. I did pay for most my books tho but no big deal had the money and have it for next semester to. I still might end up going up to WVU for a couple years tho. doubleA
I feel so dumb now. #1 daughter told me the parents should pay for their children's education and I believed her.:48::crutch::wacko:
backwoods07
I am still paying those loans from University of Illinois! After four years of school, I only owed about $8,000 thanks to subsidized loans and scholarship. I've been out of school for about 18 months now and barely made a dent in the principal despite paying out $70 a month. Every month when I see the "Direct Loans" envelope, I cringe. Not fun. Turkeygirl
Yeah, once I get settled in a job, then I'll start paying more in to it...
NBomb500
Well, my wife and I will have to start paying on student loans here in about a month or so. I'll be done with college in December and then the fun will start of paying off loans. We have payed our housing all along, which has been about $15,000. But sadly we still probably have about $10,000-$15,000 left. Plans are to pay the rest off within the next year with both of us working so we will see how that goes! Can't wait to have them paid off though.
WHISKEYSWAMP
I graduated in 96 with $27k in student loans... had a 10 year loan but paid them off within 6 years. I always paid more than the minimum plus when I had extra money laying around I'd use it toward the loans. It was nice to get that debt out of the way early. Jeramie
MY wife had a TON of scholarships and we are still in debt about $50,000. And she had free rides to several other colleges including Oklahoma University, Oklahoma State, and Northeastern State. Yep, you heard it right, $50k. University of Tulsa is a private school and they do not offer free rides to anyone..... Its runs us about $350 a month. We will be paying on it until im dead....
