Well its about time... Well 2 years ago my dad said he had, had enough of bowhunting. He was so frustrated and ticked off that he said he prolly wasn't even going to get tags this year. Well he's glad he did now! Wednesday afternoon we meet up at 3pm after I got off work. We drive out to our lil honey hole where I have seen 6 or 7 bucks in the 140 to 150 class, and he asks me where he should sit. Keep in mind this is only the 3rd time he has been out this year due to work. I suggested 2 different stands to him, one that sits at the top of a funnel (my favorite stand) and the other that sits on the edge of a picked corn field that hooks up to a decent stretch of timber. He said if it was ok with me if he sat in my favorite stand I looked at him like are you nuts heck yes go get in it! So he goes there and I go to the other stand that I suggested to him. Well its about 4pm and I think I hear what sounds like a grunt comin from the north. I sit there a bit longer wondering am I just hearing things or what and then I hear it again. Ok here we go game on. Can't see the buck but know one is close. So I snort wheeze, and he grunts again, I grunt back at him, he snort wheezes. I about fell out of the treestand! Not 2 min after he snort wheezed a doe bolts out of the timber into the picked cornfield. He darts out behind her. My heart rate sky rocketed! In the field I see a main frame 8 with two kickers to make him a ten. Long story short. He snort wheezes again and starts chase'n here all over the field. They run straight south and i lose them over the crest of the hill. I call my dad say watch ur back big buck in the field chase'n a doe, watch it if she brings him back. (My dads about 500 yards from me.) It wasn't ten min later here they come back. Shes running right towards me and hes not 20 yards behind her. She gets about 200 yards from me stops and turns to go right to the funnel by my dad. I watch them run right by him and then hear the buck make the buck bawl noise. I'm thinkin @#%$#$^$ he must of put a hurtin on him. The doe runs back out into the field and makes a beeline towards me. My dad calls me 2min after the shot and is pumped! He said the buck didnt run 50 yards and fell over. I asked him if he wanted me to climb down and head over to him and hes like no lets just sit untill dark maybe somethin would come by me. I said psssh I'm gettin down and goin to the truck to get my trackin light and put my bow away. He stays sitting i get to him after putting my stuff away and he's like im not gonna beleive it untill i touch him. So we take up the trail even tho he saw him fall over. He says hes gonna walk around this funnel and come in from the other side since it was so thick. I stayed on the blood and started walking up and saw a tail and a massive rack about 30 yards infront of me. I yell for him to get up here I found him. He said go check him out, I said heck no man its ur deer your the first to walk up on ur own deer! He kept thanking me and thanking me like i put the deer infront of him. I gave him a big hug and told him thanks dad! He looked at me like what the heck are you thanking me for. I didnt say anything. Well come to find out as were sitting there soaking everything in, my dad tells me this is the biggest buck he has ever killed. I was so happy for him that I had to fight back the tears. Then he started saying he wished I could of shot it instead of him. I told him that I'm glad he shot it and not me. I was more excited that he got it then if i would of gotten it i think. Once we got the toad loaded in the truck we were standing there looking at him and i said hey thanks again dad. He asked me whats the thanks about and I told him for getting me involved in the outdoors some 12 or 13 years ago. He couldnt really say anything just kinda stood there fightin back the tears. He still has a smile on his face about it! Sorry for such a long draw out story but I'm proud and happy how this story came together!

O and Dan I passed the horseshoe :)

Woooooooo, big buck....I just read the story my son posted on here. What a man he has become. We've shared the woods since he was old enough to walk in hiking boots. I've tried to share my love of the outdoors as my father did with me. I believe he's one of the best 'true hunters' not just for the kill, but for how he enjoys being out there, respecting nature and all the creatures that live in it. I thank God for him - he's 'all the stars in the sky' to me, and yes - man what a nice buck we harvested and shared together. Enjoy it all you guys, especially getting a child/young man - involved in the outdoors.Rick McPS - how do I change the deer under my username from Fawn (LOL) to Monster Buck? I need help... ha ha

Very nice buck.......!!!Congrats!!!......neat story too!

About the same thing happened to me last year. My son, 5 years old loves to go to the woods with me. He wanted to go this particular day, but I didn't want to go to the condo ( only place I can take him ). I was a huntin' a scrape line and really didn't want to go to the condo, but I gave in, so he could go. At 5:00 p.m. a doe came out, with a nice buck behind her. I shot and killed him (gun) at 170 yrds. 10 point that scored 143 7/8ths. My biggest deer in my hunting career. Around here in Louisiana we don't have great big bucks, so it was a trophy in two ways to me. I am so glad he wanted to go hunting on this day. Pics are in my album.
