Nut
Anybody have any experience with a broken vertabrae? Finally got to do a MRI on my back after fighting for one. It shows that I have a broken T-5 Vertabrae. What I want to know is what kind of treatments anybody has experienced and etc.
Turkeygirl
Have you talked to a Dr. about it? I personally have never had a problem like that, but treatment would probably depend on the Fx. - how severe or not severe it is...whether it's clean or there's some chips floating around. My guess is treatment may involve a couple screws/plates or something like that or it may just be a matter of letting it heal on itself which would involve being really careful...some PT, etc... T5 is about your middle back. I'm no Dr. though, just a nurse;) What happened that caused the injury?
DocMort
If it is a minor fx anymore there is really no treatment for it.. If it is in danger of compromising your spinal cord they can screen it or do other surgical procedures to alleviate it.
The_Kat
my lower three vertebrates have compound stress fractures in them from a 4-wheeling accident. I sat the ATV over on top of me and my lower back absorbed the blow. Wasn't til 3 weeks later I found out about the fracture. It wasn't a clean break, but in simple terms my back bones were crushed to the point a lot of little splinters broke off. It aches any time I sit for very long, and especially in vehicles. Weather change also makes it ache. Tylenol, and hot bathes are about all I've found to help me. My injury doesn't sound nearly as serious as yours though....perhaps you should seek a specialists input.
Tominator
Broke one of my lumbar traverses when I was a senior in high school Fred. 2 days before the state playoff game I decided to throw a roll block on Paul Manillo. Bad idea. They put me in a truss type brace for a few weeks and it healed up no problem. I missed my playoff games though.
Texan_Til_I_Die
Some of the newer treatments include a process that is basically like glue. One of the guys I hunt with had a piece of farm equipment fall on him last year and he had 2 broken vertebra and that's how they repaired him. He said he was completely pain free when he came out of the anesthesia.

They probably gave him some good pain drugs as well, lol:clown:
redgreen
Broke mine in 1992. I was paralized for a week from the waist down.Treatment was 3 years of physiotherapy. It depends on the break, as to what the treatment will be. No surgery was involved in my case. I now have a lifting restriction but am otherwise fine. It still throws ghost pains around my body, but other than that,no problems.

stevebeilgard
the doctor not calling may mean 1) it's no big problem or 2) he's pretty dumb.
Turkeygirl
I'd call the Dr. and find out what's up...not all of them think of their patient's concern...better to call and find it if you are ok or need something done....
