Bowtech_archer07
Well, yesterday morning I wounded a beautiful 8 ptr, probably around 140". We tracked him for 200 yards, lost blood, did a grid search could not find a trace of him or where he went. I was disgusted with myself then. Went back out to a different spot last night and didn't see anything. Went out this morning to where I wounded that buck and didn't see anything either. Well tonight, just before end of legal shooting light there were 6 deer come out into the field 108 yards away(used a rangefinder). Finally a nice doe stepped into my shooting lane and I decided to try the shot. I was using a muzzleloader so by the time the smoke cleared I could not see her, nor do I know how she reacted to the shot. However, I sat in the stand for a few minutes and thought I could hear her huffing, like she had blood in her lungs. Well I went back to the truck and met dad and we went and looked for blood and sure enough I had hit her. We found decent blood in the field and followed it to the edge of the timber. We then heard a bunch of crashing running away but heard one stay pretty close, pretty soon I heard that huffing again. Well I told Dad let's back out, go home get some better lights and the 4-wheeler and come back in about an hour. So we did. We get back and trailed her about 50-80 yards into the timber and lost blood. So I circled ahead to see if I could find any and I ended up jumping a deer and I think it was the same one. It would only run about 20 yards then bed down again. It did this a couple of times when I backed off and went back to Dad. The deer was slightly quartering away at the shot and like I said, I'm not sure how she reacted due to the smoke. There was good blood and she had coughed up a clot in a creek when she jumped down into it. After I backed off of her trail and we decided to back out and go get her in the morning, we never heard her move again. My question is, do you think she will be laying there in the morning, or do you think I'm gonna lose my second deer in two days?? I hate having this feeling and knowing that that deer could be suffering due to me sucks.
hungry hunter
If ya hit her in the lungs/heart she should not have gone more the 40 yards, do you think you may of hit her farther back or high? If its legal find a tracking dog. My buck that I hit ran only 30 yards with ML, I heard the crash before the smoke cleared, both lungs and heart. Bowtech_archer07
Well went out this morning. Jumped her 3 times and eventually she ended up in a lake and swimming through the lake. Her front right leg is destroyed but she had run over 300 yards and then swam the lake so 3 of us decided she was probably gonna live to see another day. I don't know what happened. I am absolutely sick right now. I don't know what else to do or say, we lost her after she swam the lake.

stcif
I hit a deer this year and had that same sick feeling. It got better though a couple days later when he was out chasing does again. The sickest part is thinking they are laying dead somewhere. I can live with the fact that they escaped to live another day. I'd say she has a great chance of living if she swam that lake. As long as she can heal up without coyotes or mother nature getting the best of her.
redkneck
That's pretty bad. Go and shoot your ML. I don't know what your setup is, but sounds like you may have some issues grouping. I'm just glad MS dont make us use them things anymore!
spcfoor
I know the feeling. I shot at a doe this morning. She mule kicked and walked off and just stood there. I shot again and she ran off with her tail down. Never heard her crash and walked up to where she was standing and there was just a little bit of hair and that was it. I walked all around and found no blood or any other sign that she was hit. Hopefully the woods will quite down and I will be back Saturday morning.
