The_Kat
Dropped him off at the taxidermist this morning. Can't wait to see how he looks in about six months hanging on the wall. I decided since he is a decent deer, and my first non-typical that he was worthy of my wall. Not to mention that double beam. As for some of your comments on my perspectives of hunting, you just don't understand where my dissappointment came from. If your not a trophy hunter thats fine, but please don't knock my style of hunting just cause it isn't like yours. Not everyone likes shooting the first buck they see. Also to you all that continue to question why I shot the deer, ( I've answered this already ), I take full responsibility for it and learned a great lesson from it. I'm not dissappointed about harvesting this buck, but I am dissappointed that I let bigger deer walk and then harvested this buck. But yall obviously don't see it and would rather be self righteous and question my hunting style. Thats your opinions I guess, and I'll take em for what they're worth, but I assure you each that you are very wrong. Ask anyone on this forum who knows me about what kind of hunter I am.... Again, thank you all for the congrats. Can't wait to try and fill my remaining buck tag which I'm saving for McCurtain county....hahahaha! sluggunner
Hey, that's a cool deer!!! For one I wouldn't say it is a small buck and for two he is very unique in the way his antlers grew this year and three he has no broken points so I would be thrilled beyond belief to take a buck like that. Man o man I'd have that bad boy on my wall within a couple of weeks and drag everybody I could into the house to look at him. You should be very happy. Randy
Kyle, I've been fortunate enough to kill a couple good bucks in my life and had I had the opportunity to kill that one, I wouldn't have hesitated. That double main beam is cool! I think, and this is just my personal opinion, you set your goals too high. You just killed a buck bigger than anything you have ever killed before!! That's awesome!! Take this whole approach to trophy hunting in baby steps. If you are set on a 140" or better you may be waiting a long time before you ever get to shoot another buck. Now you've killed a wallmounter, next year go for something a little bit bigger. As long as you continue to do that, eventually you will hit your "standard" and you'll still get to kill a decent buck every once in a while. If you just go from anything goes to wallmounter or nothing you will get frustrated and start shooting the small ones again. We started QDM in 1991 and I didn't shoot a wallmounter until 2000! That was a long nine years! Take this in baby steps brother, take it in baby steps... BTW Congrats on a great deer and one that you should be proud of as most people will NEVER get an opportunity at one of that caliber. I'd have mounted it too!! From reading your posts, I'm pretty sure McCurtain County doesn't hold any bucks "worthy" of you shooting them. :boxing::boxing::gun1::gun1:

6sixpoint_nobrows
Your taking it all outta context my man. I enjoy the time spent outdoors with family and friends. Id much rather be hunting than working anyday. I guess there are just some differences in our goals like I said. To those hunters that hunt all season and don't see a buck, I can't help that. Where I live seeing deer, big deer at that, is common. I have hunted WAY WAY WAY more than your average hunter, and passed deer comparable to this buck. Thats where the dissappointment comes in. My goal this year was to shoot a 140 or better wall hanger. I can still acheive this goal, but its gonna be alot harder now. And I have decided since this is my first non typical to go ahead and do a full shoulder mount. But please don't take my post of dissappointment outta context. There just comes a point in time when some ( note the word some )hunters choose to harvest mature deer instead of 1.5-2.5 year old deer. i hear ya man, but none the less he is a dandy deer. congrats on the harvest and i hope you get your giant! good luck man
Gator
DISAPPOINTED????????? WTH????? I don't even know what to say or think Kyle. I can't believe what I am reading here bud. You saw the deer before you pulled the trigger I am sure, right? So if it wasn't what you were looking for, then why even shoot? I'm not knocking your "style" of hunting, to each his own. BUT, when you shoot a good buck like that, and then come on a public forum complaining about how he wasn't "big enough", what do you expect the general public to think? Sorry bud, but you have NO IDEA what TRUE disappointment is. I'd have been ECSTATIC to see a buck like that, shoot just about any buck this last week worth shooting, and you know I don't have high expectations!!!
