Turkeygirl
Got in a stand yesterday shortly after 1 when I saw the neighbors head out. They hunt by way of doing drives so when we see them go out, we go as well:clown: Well I sat all afternoon and saw nothing. Then as I'm getting stuff packed up, BOOM! From the field about 100 yards that I'm in from. Andy was up on the other side of the field in a ground blind he made and put a button buck on the ground. He told me one is coming my way. After a minute here comes a small doe down the woods, straight at me. She stopped at about 25 yards. I thought if I have a head shot, I'm taking it. I've had a couple before and it's a nice clean shot. Well blew it, don't know if it was excitement, the distance, lack of rest my arms on something but I shoot and I thought she fell behind some trees. I wait a minute and get down and walk over and almost before I'm there she goes trotting back up the trail, crud! Well I look and find gray hair on the ground and sprayed on a sapling then a couple feet away where she had been behind the trees, there were some drops of blood where she had stood...not a big puddle but just several drops... That was really the only sign though, found a speck on a leaf up the trail but that's it. We looked a little bit and then when to get his deer. I had all intentions of going out this AM but it was raining...I will look agai nwhen we go out but I have a feeling she got a good mohawk. I had the back of her head/neck in my crosshairs so if it was a fatal hit, she would have either dropped or there's have been alot of blood. I'm mad at myself, should have just let her give me a good broadside shot.:hammer1:
doubledrop
A good broadside shot is always the best. to bad you didnt find the deer though. maybe she is supporting a new copper ear piercing these days
JimT
Bummer, and a prime example of why I do not like head shots. Better luck next time.

Turkeygirl
Well looked for her yesterday just to make sure...didn't find her or see her laying anywhere...Andy even pushed some sections in case she wasl aying low but nothing...Don't worry, I learned my lesson...patience is key... In the meantime worst shotgun season ever...part of me is thinking about calling it quits on the year...tired of the only thing I see is the stupid neighbor who doesn't understand the word trespasser and keep off...the landowner told us he wasn't suppose to be hunting here, but this guy does what he wants when he wants... Will be out tomorrow for sure...Thanskgiving is a big day beside the first day for people doing deer drives, so we'll see...
