nyhunter22
hey guys just had an interesting conversation with my dad and thought this was worth asking. he said that the kick of my old remington 870 pump 20ga with 2 3/4 slugs has the same or maybe more recoil than our 30-06's. so what do you guys think? any thought on this being true or is it just the imagination playin games?? Texan_Til_I_Die
Approximate numbers based on an average weight firearm: 30-06 150 gr = 17 ft/lbs recoil 20 ga 1 oz @ 1220 fps = 21 ft/lbs recoil The weight of your firearm will have a lot to do with felt recoil. The heavier the weapon, the more of the recoil it "absorbs" through inertia. There are several other factors too like the speed the powder burns. Most people would probably say the 06 feels like it kicks more than the 20 ga because it's a sharper feeling. The recoil from a rifle feels like a pop while the recoil from a shotgun is more like a shove.
