NBomb500
Ok, so even though I am not a lady I had to write a thread in your forum. My wife isn't a big hunter by any means though she has been getting really interested in watching the monster bucks DVD's which has been awesome! Do you gals have any tips for me on simple things I could do to turn my wife into a hunting "realtree" girl like you gals? I know Tiffany Lakosky never dreamed of being addicted to hunting like she is now. My wife doesn't mind going along on the hunts or watching huntind DVD's or shows, but what will spark her interest in wanting to pick up a bow or rifle? Thanks, ~ NBomb500
Turkeygirl
Well don't push her into it...Ask her if she wants to go along with you on some hunts... It may be she enjoys watching but she may not enjoy the actual killing part of hunting....but hunting isn't all about killing either so I'd say see if she'd like to go out with you on a hunt..
NBomb500
Ok, I can do that! Do you think buying a gun for her would be a little too much? I'm really excited to get her some realtree shirts and some camo stuff and was thinking about getting her...her own gun for Christmas! Yay or nay!?! Turkeygirl
I would say hold off on the gun for now...that's something down the road and you'll probably want to talk to her about that when the time comes, if she's really interested. Some camo stuff and shirts might be a good idea:)
NBomb500
Ok, some camo stuff I can do. I just got her some realtree clothing and am really excited. I was talking to her tonight as we were on our way to the movie "New Moon" and she said she would like to go hunting but she was thinking she might get bored sitting there all day without seeing anything. I assured her we would see a lot since we are both from Montana and we usually see a lot every year. She brought it up all on her own so I was pretty excited! Thanks, turkeygirl! Have a good Thanksgiving!!! ~ Nbomb500

lilmisswtnhunt
let her feel the excitment of there being a deer right under you and it having no clue you're there, thats one of the best parts
Turkeygirl
Good deal bomb...and she won't know till she tries! Tell her to take some snacks along...a book to read maybe but it's about being out there enjoying nature, usually there's something to watch and hopefully something will show up close. Good luck, have fun!
TM2FLI
The thing that got me interested was my husband took me too an archery shop and they set up a bow to shoot...I ended up buying it and loved it ever since.
FalconerKitty
She may be interested in bowhunting or even a crossbow rather than a rifle. If you get her a .22 to start plinking with, she will have a good intro, without dealing with the noise and kick of a high powered rifle. When you get her a firearm, be careful of shoulder fit. We women (and I thought I would NEVER have this problem, due to my fitness) get shoulder issues. I don't understand why, I have to make sure I exercise my shoulders with light weights and constantly move them around to stop the stiffness. Bows are probably not in my hunting anymore (too painful) and a crossbow will be my choice in the future. Also, for COOL clothes for outdoors women: Look at this site: www.vintagers.org. Edwardian clothes that look good and fit well are available through their links page. Also, www.cattlekate.com and www.womenofthewildwest.com Great, historic attire for women that looks good too. Not modern, but really, really neat.
NBomb500
Ok, I'll make sure to take snacks and a book. I think a bow would be a great idea, I'll look into that. We do have a .22 so I'll have to get her out more plinking at stuff with that. I'll let her take things at her own pace and maybe she will want to pick up a bow and rife! I really appreciate the tips!

coles
I agree with letting her go at her own pace bud. My girlfriend went hunting with me last year but couldnt shoot her own since she hadnt taken hunter's safety. After hunting season, She took hunters safety over spring break and passed with flying colors. I took her out shooting gophers and she was a dead eye! I took her out one day this last summer and let her shoot the "deer" rifles. She wanted my 270 after the first shot she took so i had to buy her one for her own! Before shooting my 270 she had only ever shot a 22. I started her off after shooting a 22 with my 204. She wanted that one too. She then shot the 30-30 and didnt like it since it didnt have a scope or a recoil pad. She shot the 270 and was hooked after that! I bought her warm camo clothes for her birthday and her and I both kept outfitting her over the summer. She got more and more excited every day and wouldnt ever stop telling me she was goin to kill a bigger buck than me! 2nd day of general season up here she took her first buck with a perfect 100 yard shot!

NBomb500
Hey everyone, came across this thread today and had to reminisce. Sure do appreciate all your comments & I can't believe it's been almost 5 years since I posted this! (crazy, getting old) Since then I moved back to my home state and am working in the oilfield & just got the cutest dog ever as a Christmas gift from my wife this year! A little beagle puppy! As for my wife & hunting, she still enjoys going along scouting and loves rockin her camo, but has to take the hunter safety course before she can hunt in our state; we found that out when we went to buy her a hunting license last fall. (I was thinkin she was old enough where she didn't need to take the course, I was wrong). lol How have all of u been!?! Staying busy? Getting geared up for another hunting season? All from here.
