ILAntlrAddct
Around here you are going to pay in between $350-$575 for a full shoulder WT mount. You want to make sure you get a good tan on your hide and not a taxidermist that still uses DP (dry preserve) Dry preservative is alot more prone to crack and split then a tanned hide. Just remember Eyes, Ears, Nose is what makes a quality mount. Sadly, most people do not have a clue what goes into a quality mount, and get taken for real cheap shoddy work. Best you can do is ask around and make sure they use the right method, any quality taxidermist studies whitetail reference photos and will get there mounts looking identical to them as possible. Tominator
Price is fair if the work is good. That's about the going rate around here. Time frame I think depends on the taxi. If he/she is doing a bunch, you aren't going to get it in 6 months, it will be more like a year. Depends if they do their own capes, or send them off to be tanned too. I've mounted 3 deer. First one took 18 months to get back, 2nd one took 2 months (in fact, I got that one back before the first one). Third one took about 3 months. craig mack
I paid $495 for mine last year and it took 8 1/2 months to get it back. To me the price shouldnt really matter, its all about quality. In a couple years you wont care what you paid for that mount but you will care if it looks like crap. Shop around and look at the quality of the mounts that are done by the taxi. Go with what looks best not by price.
wtnhunt
New taxidermist this year, his work looked good best as I could tell, but he does use a dp method. Seems most taxidermists around here I have talked with do use dp method. Paying $250 for this one, just took it in yesterday. He said it will be sometime around August before it will be done. He took in about 85 deer this year.

wtnhunt
DP is cave man methods. I cant believe what I am hearing. Don't know Cliff, old taxidermist I use had been doing taxidermy for a long time, my oldest mount is from 1994 and it still looks like it did when I brought it home, we have 4 deer that he mounted on our walls and the only one I really was in any way unhappy with was the last one which was my daughters first deer. The seam up the back of the neck had some glue left on it. I called around trying to find a taxidermist in this area who used tanned hides and came up empty. Of the 4 I called all use dp method, prices ranging from $250 up. The one I ended up going with is a preacher, and also came pretty highly recommended from someone we know. I looked over his work pretty close and the detail to the eyes, ears and face looked pretty good to me. Guess we will see. Now I have a bobcat to take in somewhere. lol.
