IowaDeerHunter
Tim, thinks were hot during the normal Rut part of November....then slowed up until Thanksgiving day. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday the bucks were really starting to move again. Last year they were still seeking out the does a little during opening day of gun season. pointing_dogs_rule
Tim: Good luck on your hunt. The corn came out very late in Iowa so deer were scarce. Hopefully you will be hunting the southern part of the state. Still lots of corn in the field in the northeast portion. Now it's time for me to vent frustration. I'm not sure how successful you have been in the past in Iowa or what your experience has been... however the IOWA DNR is really screwing this great deer state up!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All of those doe licenses are depleting the herd in great numbers. Here in northeast Iowa I would see 6-8 doe per night from any of my 12 stands in thee 1990's and early 2000's. Since they started killing all these deer about three years ago the numbers have gone down drastically. This year I HOPE TO SEE 1-2 DOES IN AND EVENING. I have guys that sit all day and only see a deer or two. I would never have believed that the DNR could cause such as mess. They only listen to the Auto insurance industry. Tim, I hope that you are hunting a large tract of private ground so that the deer can be managed properly and are not being over-harvested. Good luck and let us know how it goes. By the way temps are suppose to drop into the middle teens in the morning for the weekend and highs in the middle 20's so bring some extra clothes. good luck to all the dog
IowaDeerHunter
I have heard everyone saying that the deer numbers are way down. Then again I think that the deer harvest itself is down this year (I think). Tim where you are hunting is just east of me....I think most of the corn is out, there are a few big fields in yet, but not much (around us anyway). Last year most of the movement or gun 1 seemed to be at 8 and 9 in the morning. The young people would be cold so we would go back to the cabin early and around 9 here would come the big boy out with his does just walking around.....hopefully they do the same thing this year. Tim Andrus
Yea Russell the corn is cut there which is good... Temps look good (cold) and we will be sitting all day on the weekend to get the most of it.

Rhino
Last time I talked to one of my buddy's in Iowa was the 25th. He said the rut was winding down fast. He left to hit the woods on the 27th to hunt for a week or so. Good luck...hope the right one walks your way.
