Swamphunter
In the northern zone of NY State, we have a pretty poor buck to doe ratio of about 1:15. The last couple of winters we have had a moderate - high winter kill and the season around here is pathetic. You can hunt from morning til night, 3 days in a row and never see a dang deer... I need to put the house up for sale and move to another state!
fly
Sorry to hear of your frustration Ken. Perhaps you could plan a hunt somewhere else in your state (or out if that is the best option) where the deer hunting is good? I know the numbers are below last years numbers (and way below the average) here in IL. Last year the DNR blamed the cold temps, this year it is the rain (standing corn). Makes you wonder if the population is going down? Wonder if you all are having population problems?
Swamphunter
Our DEC wants to raise the deer herd numbers by 10%. Well that is great, but the fact is the ratio still out of whack, whats the sense. We have like the 3rd longest deer season in the country from what I have been told (I don't know this for sure), but ours runs from Sept 27 - Dec 13th... that really puts a hurting on the numbers... sluggunner
Don't moved to Wisconsin. We are experiencing the same thing here in most of the state.
wtnhunt
Don't feel too bad Ken, seems to be poor elsewhere too. This season for us has been terrible. Really been a frustrating season for us. Our buck to doe ratio is actually probably pretty good, however our deer numbers are way down thanks to the liberal limits, allowing for 3 antlerless deer a day to be taken in a county where biologists estimate a density of 15 or less deer per sq mile makes no sense. Our seasons run from the 4th Saturday in Sept on into January, so we have kinda long seasons too.
Cybertech_hound819
poor here in nh also have put in over 140 hours and have only seen on deer. fish and game says the deer pop is up by 20% over the last 5 years. but im not goin along with that lie
bghunter777
check Pa up for this category as well. although not this drastic our deer population and quality of hunting has gone done each of the last 10 years. to many does being kill and not enough micro managing
nyhunter22
in all of bow season and so far this gun season (with only 2 weeks left) ive only seen 2 bucks a 4 or a 6 and a dinky spike, and a total of 13 or 15 deer all does mostly young. this is the worst ive ever seen it. theres bunches of rubs in certain spots where i hunt but have not seen any deer at all. your not the only one havin trouble! JP_7
I feel your frustration. I hunted 4 different areas this year on two sides of the state. Our season (in both ironically) was from October 1st thru the 9th. I saw a lot of does and one spike, we also have antlered only. Then on the 15th of October our elk season starts, since then I have since 6 bucks, on being a small two point, the rest being decent bucks all 4x4 or bigger, along with one big 3x3 that has found a home in my backyard eating the apples from by crab apple tree. and this summer there were 4 bigger bucks hanging out inside city limits.. Turkeygirl
I'm with you Ken...bow season was not good at all until the very last week maybe...gun season has been the worst ever...Andy and I have not pushed any deer out of the spots we would always push something out....the big bucks I saw during bow...well who knows where they disappeared to...The whole first week of shotgun season I only saw 3 deer total...It was actually kind of warm all archery and into shotgun but with this snow coming tonight and a storm end of the week, maybe it'll get things going. I love how the DEC shrunk the DMP#'s, raised license fees, and we are lucky to even see a deer...
