It's that time of year again

Tomorow is the opening day of our 2009/10 six month lobster season ( dumping day is what we call it ). It's the day when everyone heads out to sea to set their traps.

So far, it is giving an alright day for tomorow but after that it is giving gales for about 3 days in a row. As long as we can get a good day to get the traps out, we can punish out some dirty weather after that hauling them and setting them back.

I wish all my fellow lobster fishermen the best of luck and stay safe as tomorow is pretty much the most dangerous day of the season.

Some of the boats at our wharf ready for daylight to arrive tomorow. We have a 45 foot boat and can get all 375 traps on in one load, almost all these other guys have to make 2-3 trips to get their 375 traps out, that's why there is so many traps still on the wharf.

This pic is from last season and it is what our boat looks like with all 375 traps loaded on her. There was snow on the ground then on Nov 23, this year the temps have been in the high 40's.

Good luck & stay safe.

Is the 375 the max number of traps you can have out?

If you have the opportunity, get us some more on the job pics.

Yes... that is the max, until April 1 , then we are allowed 25 more to give us a max of 400 for April and May.

Well, thanks for the good wishes, we are allowed to set sail at 6 am ( that is the official opening time ) , it is crazy , everyone tries to leave the wharf at the same time.... just like a horse race lol.
