2009 Kansas Buck

It finally happened... the deer that Tim, Rodney and I were after has taken the road to glory this past Friday evening, November 27!

We have a little history with this buck, with me seeing him in full velvet in August for the first time and multiple trail camera pictures of him in the following months to come. Rodney affectionately named him "High Right" and he was immediately inducted to our "hit list." Upon arriving in Kansas, this was the first stand set that Tim and Rodney headed to for the first evening hunt, hoping to catch at least a glimpse of him but with no luck. Rodney and I had also hung a new set closer to where we thought High Right had been coming from, hoping to get a shot at him, Rodney wanted to put an arrow in him so bad he could taste it! It seemed that he had all but disappeared until this past week. He showed up for three days straight, all during the evening hours.

For those of you that read Tim's post, remember that my bow and computer were stolen from my truck about a week and a half ago. The great guy that Rodney is, he let me borrow his bow. I hunted him on Thanksgiving evening, but he never showed and I was determined to keep hunting this area as long as the wind was right. Finally, everything came together Friday evening. There was a small buck that always seemed to be with High Right in all of the trail pics. At 4:45 he came out, but no High Right. Another small buck came out and they sparred for a bit and a nice 8pt also showed. Suddenly, they all moved on and everything was quiet. A few minutes later i saw a deer heading my way and I grabbed my binos for a better look. It was High Right! I grabbed the bow and had just ranged the trail that he was walking on... 30 yards exactly. He came into the opening as I drew back and I waited for him to get completely broadside then grunted. He stopped and turned his head my direction as I let the arrow go and watched it sink into him right behind the shoulder! He whirled straight away from me and went down 70yds from the stand. I sent Tim and Rodney a text immediately and I told Rodney that I threw a fist in the air and let out a Georgia redneck holler for him. lol

Thanks everybody! No word on my gear yet... probably have to chalk that one up to an expensive lesson learned. Just another hurdle in life! lol Actually, my stuff getting stolen is a lot smaller problem than what some of the other fellow forum members are having to go through. Loss of life and loved ones are irreplaceable.

We are going to make it happen next year Tim! Looking forward to it, you are past due for a Kansas bruiser for sure... I think that Rodney is due too!
