I wanted to post an update to the little beagle that we found in the woods last weekend. You may remember my original post:

Well here's how the following week played out:

For those of you who don't remember, the weekend before Thanksgiving we found a little beagle just BARELY making it at the farm...and this was miles away from any houses, just out in the middle of the woods.

This beagle was found and couldn't even stand up, instead he was shivering and nothing but skin and bones. He was slipping into convulsions and possibly even seizures. Regardless, we brought him back and started with the only food we had with us, a can of chicken noodle soup. He ate it all, but still couldn't hardly stand.

Brought him home and began feeding him real dog food, but small portions several times within the first 5 hours. After we started the food, he never had another seizure/tremble that I saw. He was eating as hard as he could and over the next few days he kept it up.

He was getting healthier and after 6 days he was wagging his tail and walking and even playing with a chew toy that we had to give him. He quickly became our 'camp dog' and we nicknamed him 'Buck'.

Every morning I'd get him at 4:30 and feed again and clean out his kennel for the day...then when I'd return that evening I'd check in on him and feed and clean. We all fed him plenty and I could tell a difference in him every single time I would return from hunting.

I posted on the forum trying to find the beagle a good home and got great messages and replies. I have a pound pup that my wife and I rescued a few years ago, but just don't have the setup for 2 dogs (especially a beagle which would need some property to be happy).

We found a really good home for the dog but couldn't deliver until Sunday, so I had a few more days with the little guy. So, in those days I did get attached, but knew the whole time I had to give him up, so it made it alright. Here's a few pictures of him making his way through camp:

Here is his chew toy that he would bury in the leaves.

And then on the last day that I had him, I stopped at a rest stop and just hung out for a while before giving him to his new owner. While sitting on the bench, he hopped up beside me so I took a few photos of that.

As I was driving in, I was turning radio stations and happened to stop on some classic country and Vince Gill was hanging out a few lyrics...well the little beagle just howled along with him and had me laughing and looking over my shoulder into the back seat.

He still has a long ways to go, but he is well on his way. His skin wasn't just hanging off of him as bad as it was, and you could tell he was feeling much better. The lady that took him already had a vet appointment today, and she is going to keep me posted on him.

I'll miss the little beagle, but certainly enjoyed the week that I got spend getting him healthy.
