cinch314
ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH. OK guys I screwed up royally this past week. Last Saturday morning I was out hunting for the opener of rifle. At 7:19 here comes the 12 pt buck I kicknamed Big Poppa gives me a 40 yd shot broadside. I miss!!!!!!!! with the 7mm mag with a scope. Same thing on Monday evening with the 9 ptr I call Hercules 40 yds broadside. I miss again. I couldnt figure out what was wrong, I never miss with a rifle. I go back to the house and me and my mom's boyfriend check my scope. It is dead on. We cant figure out what is going on except maybe buck fever. He tells me my trigger is creeping a bit, I ask what does that mean and he has me dry fire it. Low and behold there is the problem! Im flinching with the 7 mag bad!!!!!!!! I didnt notice that I flinched when I had a rest but freearm Im flinching! I guess because last year it gave me a bunch of bruises. Sooooooo I take out ol' reliable (30-30 open sights I know I dont miss with) but didnt see anything that I wanted to shoot. Maybe this weekend I can get teh job done but I tell you what. Im looking for a .308 now and am going to get rid of the 7 mag. It's just too much gun for me.
hutchies
#1 problem with most rifle hunters..................they shoot too big a gun. I know I'll probably get flamed for this but Cinch you could have killed both of thos bucks with a .243 or a .270 and been alot more comfortable. I shoot a .30-06 and looking back I wish I had bought a .270 or a .25-06. Don't feel bad cinch it happens to all of us.
cinch314
The only reason I got that gun hutchies was because it was on sale for $130 brand new with scope at Wally World. I was looking for a .270 (if ya remember) but thought I couldnt pass up the price on this one. I know better now lol.

bfletch7441
I've got a 7 mm, but rarely use it. My old Marlin 30-30 seems to punch a pretty good hole in them! Ben
ruttinbuc
.270 would do OK for you. With the right loads it will kill every big game animal on the continent without the bruising. Hope you run into those deer again!
NC8point
I agree with everyone that a 270 will kill deer I shoot a 300 wsm and I never feel the shot when I am shooting with any gun
Tim Andrus
Ive got a .280 for my Encore, .270 Rem BDL and the .300 win mag usually sits or is my back up. The 1st 2 are a joy to shoot
The Kid
take the money that your going to buy a new gun with and put a 100 dollar muzzle break on your gun take all the kick away
hungry hunter
I agree with the Kid, muzzle break, or order a NEF 270 from wally world. I have made shots out to 400 yards with mine and love the single shot because it brings ya back to the basics. Good luck either way.
