ALAN
i read an article in a magazing comming back home from flordia.. a guy talked about treating your body a month ahead of when your hunting season opens he went on to say he used scent away a whole month and during this month he washed in hot water then in cool.. doing this he said closes the pores and helps prevent new ordors from emitting... anyone else do this in hopes a buck dont bust ya? when washing my clothes should i dry them or let them hang up and dry that way?? what about oil smeel on your gun could a deer get a wiff of it? muggs
Scent control is important, but the only other industry that is filled with more gimmicks than the hunting industry is the golf industry. Don't let creative marketing make you it's slave. To quote Roy "Tin Cup" McEvoy. Most of it is "paraphernalia for lost and tortured souls." I was my stuff in baking soda, and a little hydrogen peroxide, then dry it in the dryer (no dryer sheet obviously). Once it's dry I stuff it in a plastic storage container with some leaves. I keep my outermost layer of camo in that container until I get to the hunting spot, then I throw it on out in the field before I go to my stand. When I'm done, I take off my camo and put it back in the container. I don't buy the $20 laundry detergent, or the $10 cover spray. What I do do is make sure I wash my base layers before every hunt, and my camo every 2-3 hunts. I've been winded by one deer this year out of 50 and she was an old smart doe down wind. If they're going to scent you, they're going to scent you no matter how much you spend. Don't worry about the oil either.
hunterbobb
I use unscented everything. Laundry detergent, body soap, foot powder, deodorant, toothpaste. Plus I do the same thing muggs does the outer layer goes in a bin with leaves from the hunting area. I all so wear rubber boots. The one product I discovered that works better than all of this put together is Gum o flage. It is chewing gum for your breath. it claims that 80% of your scent comes out your mouth. This makes sense to me. Since I have been using Gun o Flage I have not been scented by a single deer I know of. The only time I get busted any more is when I move :gun2:

Adjam5
No doubt Alan, scent control plays a big part in the deer hunt. The most important part of it all is playing the wind. You can be in the brightest stinkiest clothes and still kill a deer if the wind is right. I know folks who smoke, pay no attention to scent control and wear the same boots to the gas station as they do in the woods and still manage to kill deer. I wash my hunting clothes in Sportwash. It takes away the UV brighteners in the camo and removes and scent on the clothes. I too store my hunting clothes in a big plastic bin with leaves from the yard in there to keep that woodsy smell. Good luck on the hunt Alan:)
Prairiepredator
It is almost impossible to get rid of your scent 100%. I do not really go all out with scent control, but I try a bit. Just play the wind properly and the animal will never smell you.
