jesse8953
I will never use another tinks product again.I have had bad experiances with the hot bomb and the power scrape.I have also had 4 friends that have had the same problem as me.The hot bombs didn't work at all [no smell]and the power scrape not only didn't work but we haven't seen a deer in the woods after anyone of us used it.We all hunt different places and had the same outcome. All of us agree it scares the deer away.I know tink is a great guy and a great forum member but from our experiance the products just don't work [at least in n.w.ohio and s.w. michigan] Next year I am not using any kind of aftermarket scents.I know sometimes I get cought up in all the hipe and the t.v. comercials but I think I have wasted money that could have been better spent on something else.Has anyone else had any problems like this? NBomb500
Nope, I wouldn't give up on them though. I know where I am from in Montana Tink's products would probably never work, but I still can't wait to try some!!! Maybe it's just not for your area. That's too bad you didn't have any luck. ~ NBomb500

Ravin R10 man
I always have wonderd just how fresh any scent is...my brother used code blue on a drag rag, hung it in a tree at the stand..a buck came through chasing a hot doe..stopped and came into the bait for a bite....turned and walked back to where he dropped the doe off at..put his nose to the ground picked up her trail and started grunting and chasing ..never even checked out the rag hanging right upwind of his nose! (one doe-one bottle)= one uninterested buck. Guess the real thing is better than what is in the bottle. I must defend TINKS..I have had bucks come right into a Tinks drag rag set...and other scents products....doesnt work everytime, but it is a tool Edited December 3, 2009 by Mathews XT Man
RangerClay
Have you tried contacting Tink or anyone from his company customer service? Have you given them a chance to make it right with you and your friends? If you bought a toaster and it didn't work I would wager that you would be on the phone with the company before you started a bash thread. How about sending Tink a PM or calling his company? I'm sure they would like to hear your story because it is the only way that they can make the product better.
brad dryden
I have had some luck had a buck come in and check it out. But the best sent I have ever used was from still steaming it was called Buck Seaman yes that's right and it was STRONG stuff. But cant find that stuff anymore. camoman1
Scents are not magic..you cant spray something on the ground and expect bucks to trip over themselves to get to you. The percentage of times that myself or my buddies have put scent out and seen deer because of them is probably well under 50%......however, the deer in my avatar followed a Tinks 69 trail right to his demise this year. Sucks you guys havent seen many deer, but I dont know that a bottle of scent would run all the deer off of a property.

backwoods07
I've had similar experiences as you. I gave up on the stuff. I'm a firm believer in stand location. If you know they're gonna pass you, you don't need scent. The less intrusive and more sneaky I can be the better.
OUTSIDER
I never use scents, used a tinks aerosol can this year, had deer sniffing around a lot that morning. I would contact tink, he seems like a stand up guy.
cain
I fall into the school of thought with backwoods07 in that its more in stand placement and add in a little luck. I know its easy to get caught up in advertising hoopla and think you purchased some "magical potion" that will send all the big bucks your way in droves but there is no surefire method to seeing deer. There are days I see a ton of deer in my stand and there are many a days where I see zero. My school of thought on scents, scent cover-up, etc. is you are not investing a whole lot of money and it will probably benefit you more than it will harm you and there are no guarantees its going to bring me any success. Did not really take your post as meant to be bashing, but would kind of have to agree with Joe here. Shoot Tink a pm Jesse, either that or contact their customer service. Scents can be a useful tool for sure, but sometimes some circumstances they may not work like we would expect.
The_Kat
I had the same results with the Power Scrape, can't talk about the hot bombs. But I have used tink's 69 for years with awesome results. I also really like his Tinks Gel. It last along time.
Jeramie
Ive seen them work and not work. A couple of years ago I had a BIG buck stumble in to about 8 yards to Tink's 69. Too bad for me that he had one side broken off just above the hairline so he was only sporting a half rack. I have also seen deer (hot in the rut) walk by scents. They do work but I wouldnt say 100% of the time. Ill continue using them but only when I know the deer are chasing. Otherwise its like the can (which works great during the rut), it may turn them the other way.
MNcrittergittr
I wouldn't generalize and say all Tinks products are bad. Over the years, I've had great success with Tinks 69! And as far as the power scrape goes, my brother has used it the last two seasons with very good results! No matter what, it's hunting and there are never any 100% guarantees. I guess if you are dead set on checking something else out, I'd recommend Wildlife Research Center products. My buck this year came in gruntin' like crazy following a Golden Estrous trail. Remember though, it's hunting. Anything can happen or go "wrong" at any moment, there isn't a product on any market that will ever change that. Well anyway, good luck to ya and good huntin'! Texan_Til_I_Die
Yep, just like rattling or using a decoy, sometimes it works and at other times or places it may actually act as a deer repellent. I use the Tink's 69 every time I rattle, but I don't just randomly deploy it if I'm hunting a food source or a travel route.
Monofletch
Hot Bomb didn't smell at all for me either! Mine were free, so I can't argue. Best estrous scent I have used is Allure by Buck Stop. I had bucks that were following doe's break off the live doe and follow my scent trail and come in for a shot. They all acted CRAZY when they smelled it. 2 started to eat the drag rag!!! Not sure if it was luck, or what, but I had 3-4 deer do that. Allure is hard to find though. GWSmith
In all the years I've used Tink's 69 I always placed it out with the phrase going through my mind "I hope this helps"...it was never "I expect this to work". There were times when it was a definite plus and deer responded positively. Other times I did not even see a deer. I cant say that the Tinks 69 kept the deer away one time and brought them in standing broadside the next. I use it with the ThermaScent and I can say that without a doubt there have been more positive responses since I started doing that. Was it the ThermaScent that made the difference in my success....or me paying more attention to where my scent was going and placing the ThermaScent, with the Tink's 69 on the pad, in the most beneficial place to intercept the deer before they intercepted my scent stream;) Nothing works all the time....but when you use nothing it never helps:D
hunterbobb
I've had luck with Tink's 69. I had a nice 8 pointer follow a scent trail I laid down. It stood right where I wanted to but then I messed up the shot. It is the only scent I have ever had any luck with and is the only one I use anymore. It doesn't work evertime but I know it worked at least once. :gun2:
sskybnd
i have used tinks 69 for years, i have good luck with it most time, i beleave it just depends on the rut and and how active the bucks are. i used the ppower scrape this year on did have plenty of tracks in the scrapes, think they were does or realy young bucks,
Tecumseh
I've been using tink's #69 for may years and have had nothing but good luck with it.You may have gotten a bad batch?
Adjam5
I have had good luck using Tinks 69. This year I had a forkhorn bed right down on the spot where I squirted some #69. Dang thing kept getting up smelling it and laying back down. I was SURE it was the scent that kept him around til dark and I had to scare him when I got down out of my stand. The time has to be right to use scents or you can scare deer away. If none of the doe are in estrus, and that scent is put out. I think the bucks know it is not natural because he has not smelled any itself in the wild. They know when the stank has begun and they respond to it when the time is right. I say shoot Tink and e mail or PM and see if he can help you out.
redkneck
I've used Tink's 69 for years, and will keep on using it. It can be a repellent to some does, but that's ok too. I've killed one buck and had him literally die on top of the scent dispenser. btw.... Tink is no longer actually involved in management of the scent company is he? jesse8953
I think next year I will try the tink69,but not the hot bomb or the power scrape.Sounds like the 69 will work good.I have talked to a few guys around here and all they will use is the original tink69 Thanks for all of your input. whttlbucksteve
Look at it this way what if after many years useing it with no luck then one year you shot the biggest deer you have ever laid your eyes on.The only reason is the big boy came in to the scent.I think that would be well worth the years of the scent not working,I use it hopeing one day will be the day of all days in the woods.A small price to pay for the buck of a life time!
