Dawg
Rate your deer season so far. 1-10. 1 being poor and 10 being excellent. Taking everything into perspective (sightings while on stand, sightings while scouting, sightings while driving down the road, and harvests) mine has been about a 2. Not sure what the deal is this year but it has been one of the poorest seasons I have seen.
ruttinbuc
All things considered being deer less and all I'd still give it a 7. Saw some nice bucks and enjoyed most of my stand time...
AaronS
3. Poor sightings in our part of the country due to way too much standing corn and warm temperatures. I also rated it low because I haven't had as much time to hunt as I'd like.
TN Bucknasty
I'll go with a 2 as well. This is definitely the worst I've seen for my area since the mid 90's. Too much food available and we're still recovering from the drought and EHD outbreak of 2007. The 3 per day limit is probably not helping that either. I've seen 1 buck that was over 2.5. I haven't even had any good pictures.
Dawg
In case anybody wonders why there's only 5 poll options, I couldn't come up with 10 ways to fill in the poll options. :hammer1: But go ahead and reply here with a rating of 1-10. :stupid:
cinch314
8. Been covered up with deer and gotten a couple of shots but missed as you guys know. But the amount of deer and bucks and then to have a big buck behind me at less than 10 yds was really intense.
JackedUpZ71
I'll have to rate mine as a 6. Deer sightings have been few and far between this year. The only reason I'm even going with a 6 is because I shot the #1 on my hitlist.
MNcrittergittr
I'd probably say an 8. Keep in mind a 10 would have to be a pretty spectacular season. I've seen LOTS of deer, much like every year, including some really great bucks, much like every year. My dad got his biggest buck ever this year and my little brother and I were able to be there and share that awesome hunt and experience with dad! I got a beautiful pope and young this year and could go out anytime I want and get does. My brother is experiencing a few more challenges, but having some really great experiences. Really the only reason I didn't rate the season higher. It'll make it all the more special when he does score! All in all...very happy with my season! Already can't wait for next year! Rhino
It's really too early to rate the season here in MS. We are just now approaching the pre-rut here. So far though it's been pretty good. Seen 2 mature bucks during bow season here and killed a 5 year old 8 point. Smacked a doe too. This past long weekend was the 1st chance I've had to hunt here since Oct. 18th. Been a road warrior lately. While I was bowhunting in IL (last week of Oct.) the weather sucked. Most of the time it was warm with light rain. Even though the weather was against us, we some good bucks but no shooters. One inside the 20 yard line sure was a head scratcher though. Iowa was a little disappointing. I was above my buddy in a tree with my video camera. Didn't see the number of deer like I have in the past. The only shooter buck we saw was when we went to pull our last stand set to leave. He was a beauty though. Saw a few good ones that needed another year. Kansas was great. I saw 2 definite shooters, including a mid 150's class buck that I flat missed. Shot right over the top of him. My buddy saw 5 shooters including a big NT with points going everywhere. He also shot right over the top of a huge old 9 point. All you can ask for is 1 opportunity at a big one and we both choked with the 1 we had. In a nutshell...I can't rate MS yet...I'd give IL a 6, IA a 4, and KS a 9. Edited December 3, 2009 by Rhino
coles
excellent as far as the deer i killed. Second biggest to date. But as far as number of bucks and quality of the rut it was poor to fair. Did not see a fraction of the big bucks i saw last year. 90 percent of what we saw was little forkies runnin around. Last year there were big bucks everywhere.
Dawg
It's really too early to rate the season here in MS. We are just now approaching the pre-rut here. Just now reaching pre-rut? Wow! The rut has been over for almost a month here in SE Texas and it wasn't much of one either.
backwoods07
I saw about 5 different shooters this year from the stand. I was only shut out a handful of times and passed on a ton of deer. I give this season SO FAR a 5 out of 10.
Texan_Til_I_Die
Excellent for numbers, but poor for trophy quality. I passed on a 10 point that would have made P&Y on the very first day of archery back in October, and I haven't seen anything since then that would even get close to that. A friend of mine killed the buck I passed about two weeks ago with a rifle. Nice solid 135 10 point typical.
Tominator
I'd give my season a solid 5. Because of finishing the house, I basically missed October. November always goes by too quick. Although I was able to hunt almost every night I saw a grand total of one buck I would shoot with a bow. That deer would have scored in the 140's I think. I passed on at least 10 smaller bucks and saw probably in the neighborhood of 20 different little bucks. On the flip side, I thank the Lord that I was able to hunt, I thank the Lord for being able to share the woods with my buddy Tom again and I was ecstatic when my son hammered his second deer during youth season. Finally, I was happy to shoot a deer off my new land, and I look forward to filling a few more tags on does with the season/s we have left. :cool2:
wtnhunt
Season is not over yet, but at this poin would rate it a 2. One of the worst seasons we have had in a long time to this point and it is not for not putting forth effort. Probably the single most disappointing season ever. Had several good bucks around, should have been a great season, despite putting a lot of time on stand things have just not worked out and we simply have not seen the deer we should be seeing. bigbuckkilla89
I give my season this year a 10 A FREAKING 10....lol...this was the first year that i got a good buck with my bow (a nice 9 point) and with my shotgun (a nice 10 point) all i have left are doe tags and im workin on them....THE FREEZER IS FULL AGAIN... (time to make some jerky)
marshall9779
This has been my best season. I have seen the most deer ever. I did lose a small buck early in bow season, missed another small buck later. I have tied my best with two kills in a season but there is still plenty left here in MD with gun season in now, a week of bow in two weeks, late muzzelloader the last two weeks in december and then late archery through end of Jan. So far I have shot my first deer with my muzzleloader, doe. I also shot my first 8 pointer with my bow a few weeks ago. I plan on trying to take out as many more does as I can and will donate all but one more. I am hopig to get a crack at a huge 8 I saw after I shot the other 8. The_Kat
I rate it a 9. I have seen more deer, more bucks, and more big bucks than any other season before. Perhaps that is because I have hunted probably three times as much as I have during any previous hunting season. I harvested a buck and a doe so far, still have a buck archery tag and several doe tags.
bfletch7441
I've been taking my 5 year old daughter, therefore I've not seen a lot of deer. Then again, I've been taking my 5 year old daughter, so it's been more fun than most any season in the past. It all averages out to about a 7. Jeramie
Killed two, a tiny buck and an OLD doe. Way to much pressure on our ranch this year. It has been horrible.
rhine16
It's really too early to rate the season here in MS. Same here. I've killed a cull buck and a doe with the bow so far, but believe my sightings are down. Believe it will be heating up in a few weeks though. MK-M-GOBL
Before I saw this thread I made a post on how my season went this year. I voted great but for being in NH where the hunting can be tough and the deer heard poor due to our wonderful F&G Department...maybe I should have rated it higher. Missilelock
I am giving my season a 9- actually I know the season has really stunk for most Pa. hunters, but I have been fortunate to have been in deer steadily this year. My son shot his first buck with a bow & a doe with the bow as well. my little girl got a doe with the rifle & my 2 buddies & I all got decent bucks with the bow- one of wich was a brute. jesse8953
I'll rate mine as a 10 because last year I couldn't enjoy hunting.I did tag out but I was in bad pain.I had a slipped disk in my back. This year I could sit and not hurt while hunting.Who says money can't buy happiness-$30,000 for back surgery.Thank goodness I had insurance.
