Old Posts.....

Sure am seeing a bunch of old post getting resurrected from the dead. Some are almost 2 years old. Somebody must be very bored grin.gif

I think it would be a good idea if some how older posts--like 6 months old got locked--they could still be read for information but wouldn't get brought back to the top and knock down newer posts--just a thought!

Re: Old Posts.....

dogdoc, on Jan 26 I sent the following e-mail to the realtree webmaster, but received no reply:

I guessed that my suggestion would not fly in the computer world.

Suggestion on Realtree Forums:

I do not know much about computers or their programming, so I don’t know if this is feasible or possible.

The problem:

Many new members to the forums do not realize when they revive an old topic how irritating it is to those who have been here awhile. Sometimes I know they are just trying to search a subject to make a reply, and don’t even notice it was an old topic.

This has caused some commotion and debate in the past couple of months.

Another old one was revived that I noticed tonight in the lounge, pertaining to a 14 year old girl being killed in a ski-doo accident. This original post was two years old but got several replies before anyone noticed. Prayers are going out to the family of an accident victim of two years ago.

Possible solution:

Any topics that are more than a week or two old, when brought up from a search or archives would have a red bordered warning on them. This warning could be something like: “ WARNING, this is an old or archived topic that remains here for your reference. Are you sure you wish to re-open this “old topic”?”

This warning would only appear if the member clicked the reply tab.

Do you think this would work?

Just a suggestion, Sincerely, …..popgun

Re: Old Posts.....

That's probably not a bad idea to lock these, however, I think the searching should not be limited to 6 months. This just makes it more difficult to search for topics especially when you're not exactly sure when it was posted. The searching didn't use to have any limitations.

Re: Old Posts.....

I agree Todd. Seems to really clutter it up in here making it a bit difficult to keep up with what is new.

This has come up about someone doing this before not all that long ago. Seems there is someone in particular in here who maybe is bored or is maybe getting some kind of a kick out of resurrecting these old posts. Wish that person would find something better to do with their time and quit.

You can, but rather than using new X-Ray technology, you have to pull out a shovel and do some work. Go to the bottom of whichever room you want to dig in and scroll all the way down. On the left side there is a drop down box where you can customize the length of your search all the way back to the last time the forums were changed. But, there'll be about 400 pages to dig through one-by-one in the lounge. Trust me, I've done it.

Oh yeah, I don't know about locking old posts, I have still not gotten around to replying to the COKE OR PEPSI thread from a couple of years ago. I just keep forgetting. frown.gif

Re: Old Posts.....

Guess what. A lot of these old posts show up on Google and Yahoo. A new prospective member finds these on a search engine and decides to join and post some replies. I would bet the majority of the old post resurrections are from new members wanting to join in on a discussion. If the item is of interest to them why not let them join in the discussion belatedly. Surprise they might have something new to add. At any rate let's not turn away new members because we feel that topic is old. Locking these threads would be rude.

Rereading it and getting irritated is your own fault.
