ruttinbuc
Will be headed out in the morning to see if maybe it is a shotgun in my hand that brings me any luck..... Got a good bunch of snow cover and it is going to be cold. Maybe one will show up! Wish me luck!

ruttinbuc
So I changed my mind.... Getting ready to pack out of here this morning and try another stand in the same neighborhood. With tracks all over the place they have show up sometime. At least you would think so.
wtnhunt
Late season here is usually not too great, but never know what you might miss getting a shot on if you are not out there. Good luck Mike, hope your patience and persistence pays off.
Adjam5
Sorry you didn't connect Mike. BUT.... you are welcome to come hunt our land and stay at my country house/deer camp in the foot of NY's Catskill Mtns. We still have 5 days of rifle season left and one week of muzzleloading coming. I have 2 of 'em you could borrow one. I have a doe tag for ya if you want/need it . I'll put you here in my TOP spot next to the cemetary! It has a heater! You can meet me at my house 1/2hr north from GWB and ride up with me so the driving don't get to ya.
njbowhntr
I feel your pain. I sat yesterday afternoon. I saw all the resident buttons and does. Oh yea, the resident spike also. As for this morning, nothing at all. I think I saw one about 100 yards off, but too quick to tell if it was my eyes playing tricks or a deer. Dad is out in my stand tonight. Will see. ruttinbuc
Another day of wind and cold, but at least I saw a few deer. Four baldy deer this morning. Five tonight but a few of those had bumps on their head. I think i might have heard 5or 6 shots all day. I put a small push on for a friend of mine who hunts the firearm season. He is going in for foot surgery tomorrow. I pushed a big patch of pine and cedar that had all kinds of track in it, but nothing went his way. The snow falling from the branches inundated me. It was wet, but my Arctic Shield bibs and Field and Stream fleece jacket keep me dry. I then pushed a small corner of cornfield and jumped a spike. The little buck circled back around me and past him. He saw it, but didn't see the spikes until it was too late. No opening by time he got the gun up. I was really hoping he would have shot that buck. He went through a bout with Guillain-Barre Syndrome some years ago and lost a few years fighting it off. . I got a couple irons in the fire here with the TAA and UE this week.
njbowhntr
Well pops sat in his stand tonight. But can see my stand from his. He said there was a small 6-ptr and a doe under my stand for almost an hour. Then right at dark he said a really big bodied deer came out of the woods to his left. It crossed the over grown field and then started to angle towards my stand. He said at this time the 6-ptr got real antzy. He could not get the binos on him because he had a small button under his tree. But at least we know there is another big something walking around. ruttinbuc
Went out after the storm yesterday. I took a ride down to some off the beaten path state land and was quite impressed with it. A lot of deer sign and the layout was pretty nice with terraced ridges and good cover. I kicked up a couple doe going in and saw a few more on stand along the top of a ridge overlooking a big flat. I was going to head there today, but the wind was horrendous. Tomorrow is going to be worse. I hunted the protected side of the mountain here this morning. Didn't see too much of anything as far as deer go. I was pleasantly surprised to see the snow geese have returned. Tried to get a picture, but the resident bald eagle messed things up... I might buy another zone tag and investigate the state ground further with my muzzleloader. It is just a tad far, but may be worth it. Certainly a nice change of scenery. njbowhntr
Pops hunting in High Bridge tonight. He said he saw about 20 deer in all. All does, yearling does and buttons. But at least he saw deer. Tomorrow night I will be out with him. Hopefully the wind lays down in the afternoon or near dark.
ruttinbuc
Turned out to be a pretty pathetic week. The worst I can remember. I saw a total of 21 deer for the week and not an antler on any. There was hardly any shooting as in past years I remember, but that coincides with the lack of deer sign I witnessed in my area this year. The kill em' all attitude has been taking its toll...
