KirkV
Tonight was the last night of the second gun season in Illinois. I was on stand until last time with the hopes of seeing a buck I knew was there........ somewhere. All of the sign had been there but he was nocturnal and Shy after 2 gun seasons. Well tonight I saw him at last shooting hours holding tight to the timber edge at 100 yards. He stopped and I settled the scope of the pro hunter muzzleloader in on my off side of course, who said it would be easy. I squeezed it off and saw him lurch forward and trot slowly about 25 yards. He stopped and stood about 15 or 20 seconds with his head down as I was frantically trying to reload. When I got the gun back up ..... he was gone. I am pretty sure I hit him but in waning light I found no blood where I last saw him. He had not tipped over as I had hoped and my enthusiam has fallen to fear. I backed out reluctantly but I knew it was the right thing to do. I hope he turns and goes right back into his little secluded draw I have not bothered him in all season and lays down, if I did indeed hit him. After work I will go in the afternoon with better light and survey the situation in more detail. A few prayers probably would not hurt as I think this is a pretty fair buck. More after work in the evening as to what I found. Kirk

ruttinbuc
Hoping and praying you have good luck finding him, Kirk. Go slow in the snow and check out all the stuff that looks out of place with binos. Snow will stay on the body, but his antlers should show. buckee
It sure sounds like you hit him alright Kirk. Standing there like he was, means he's hurt bad, so I don't imagine he went far, especially since you just backed out like you did. Mike gave some good advise about taking your time and looking for those antlers and unusual lumps in the snow. Here's hoping you don't get much snow, if any, and he didn't go far.
