Dawg
I am looking at other properties to lease for next years deer season. I have found a couple of small properties. One is 115 acres just south of where I live the other is 90 acres to the west. The 115 acres is in an area that I really don't want to hunt so I am thinking about getting the 90 acres. It is down by a river but the river doesn't border it. I think it will have good potential for deer. Here's my question, how many stand locations would you put on 90 acres? I am thinking maybe 2 box blinds (shooting houses) and one tree stand for bow hunting.
The_Kat
I have 80 acres across from my parents and I have 6 stands on it with plenty of room for more.
NC8point
I would think you could put as many as you want so you could hunt different wind directions in the same area. I also would limit myself to and # of stands i know where i hunt sometimes just a few hundred yards away there may be totally different area to hunt, hope this helps
bloodtrails
I say scout the area and decide from there. There could be potential for more.:cool2:

wtnhunt
Think it would depend on the lay of the land and on the terrain Corey. Think we have 7 stands and I also have 2 climbers out. Ask Randy how many stands he has on 120 acres. lol.

I dont think the number of stands matters, just the number of hunters. Nice to have options to play the wind. Dont count out the "convenience factor" when making your decision between the two tracts either. I'd sacrifice some land quality for some back yard hunting that I know I'll get to hunt twice as much as something 90 miles away personally. Dawg
I agree. I dont think the number of stands matters, just the number of hunters. Nice to have options to play the wind. There will be 3 of us that hunt the property. 2 of us will hunt it pretty regularly. Dont count out the "convenience factor" when making your decision between the two tracts either. I'd sacrifice some land quality for some back yard hunting that I know I'll get to hunt twice as much as something 90 miles away personally. Both properties are within 20 miles of my house. The area where the 115 acres is just doesn't seem to appealing as there is/has been a lot of outlaws. The 90 acres is a little more secluded and just seems like it has better deer potential to me. joeaveragehunter
two for each ambush spot so you can play the wind when it blows in different directions... if you got the trees
The Kid
your gonna need more than just one bow stand,, if i were you i would put as many as i could put up, the deer wont use there same patterns throughout the year

Heck, I have a food plot that has 3 bow stands on it and a gun stand. Number of stands shouldn't matter. 2 wouldn't be too many hunters in my opinion. cray8705
I hunt on 55 acres, half is prairie and the other timber. I have 4 stands up and could prolly have more. Give yourself different choices, I would definitely go with more than 1 stand for bowhunting on a 90 acre parcel. Also, when did 115 and 90 acres become small parcels of land? camoman1
The 120 or so acres of woods I hunt has 14 treestands, and a bunch of ground blinds. Can never have too many places to sit lol
Dawg
Also, when did 115 and 90 acres become small parcels of land? They are small compared to the other properties or leases as I call them here. There are a lot of 2500-5000 acre leases around here but the price to get on them is through the roof high and you never know what kind of hunters are on the same lease. Thanks for all of your responses and input.
fly
Hey dawg, just another thought to throw in the mix for ya... Consider a couple box blinds and only place tree stands in trees that climbers can not be placed in. I have several areas that I get ready by clearing shooting lanes, putting a couple tree steps at the level I hunt at to hang my gear from, and then take my climber home. If you only have 90 acres walking in with a stand will not be an issue. You could potentially get 5 or more areas ready and use one climber to hunt them all! gurnzman
Before I set my mind on any number of stands and blinds I'd take out some cameras and do some scouting and pattern the deer and go from there. Thats what I try to do.
