Plan on finally getting a rifle!

Plan on picking up an H&R Handi rifle next week or so in .223 bull barrel. Any ideas on a scope for this gun?? My buddy says he really likes BSA (he has Leuphold, Simmons 44mag, Burris, and what have ya), but those BSA's are pretty cheap.....Makes me wonder about them. He did say he shot some competition with one on his .22 and I know a .223 doesn't have much recoil. I have heard some good things about burris, but not sure where I should start. Looking for a 3-12, maybe 4-16X. No bigger than 44mm. Toss out some suggestions!! wink.gif

Re: Plan on finally getting a rifle!

I got the scope in today. I examined it and it does apear to be used as it has a scratch on the adjustable objective. Not the lens, but the bell. No biggie there. I can touch it up with a Sharpie permanent marker.

I filled the sink with cold water and gave it a bath. I left it in the water for an hour. No bubbles came up and there was no trace of water inside the scope.

I dried off the scope and put it in the freezer. One hour later, I pulled it out and the scope was clear. No fogging.

I had a one piece mount laying around so I bolted the scope in a set of rings and mounted it in the mount. I put the mount in a vise and checked out the u-d and l-r adjustments. It tracks perfect.

I centered the adjustments and gave it some repeatability testing. I set a piece of tape on my truck and moved the truck about 100 yards away. I adjusted the vise so the reticle was at one corner of the 1"x1" tape. I adjusted it 4 clicks up to the top corner, 4 clicks right to the other top corner, 4 clicks down to lower right corner, and 4 clicks left to the home position. It tracked perfect.

I put a thumbtack in a tree about 60 yards and sighted the scope on it. I moved the magnification adjustment up and down from 4x to 12x and back, the crosshair never left the tack.

I give it 2 thunbs up. Its a great deal for a 1/2 price scope. It comes with a 90 day Nikon warranty.

I may have to order one of those bad boys!

They do not always have them in stock. There is a decent demand for them and when they are gone, they are gone. If you decide you want one, don't procrastinate too long.
