Ethan Givan
This may be a dumb question, but how old does a buck have to be to breed? Im guessing deer are like other animals and have to reach a certain age to be mature enough to breed. Im sure some of you know. Just thought I would ask. MNcrittergittr
I've read articles that say 1 1/2 and I've read others that say full sexual maturity is reached around 2 1/2... I'm not a wildlife biologist but, I've seen 1 1/2 yr old bucks bird dog does like there's no tomorrow. So either around here they are ready to breed at a 1 1/2 or no one told em that they aren't "ready" . They may not always get the chance, but I'd say 1 1/2 yr old. Diamond Archer 01
Not sure on the exact age. I will tell you that I have seen some spike horns and other smaller bucks chasing does during the rut. I think any buck that gets the chance to breed a doe will. SonnyThomas
How old? Like all other animals, get "LUCKY." I'm sorry. I just had to say that.

Rhino
1.5 years old. I've seen 2 bucks mount does over the years...one was a 1.5 year old spike.
wtnhunt
I read somewhere that on rare occasions where conditions are the most ideal that buck fawns can successfully breed a doe, but that is very rare. In general bucks are supposed to be mature enough at 17 to 18 months of age, so 1.5 year olds.
Ethan Givan
I read somewhere that on rare occasions where conditions are the most ideal that buck fawns can successfully breed a doe, but that is very rare. In general bucks are supposed to be mature enough at 17 to 18 months of age, so 1.5 year olds. That is interesting. I figured a button buck would be too young but we have several 1.5 year old bucks on our farm and I was curious if they were able to breed. Thanks for the answers everyone.
