Gap Closing On Cross-Border Shopping Prices

I travelled stateside this afternoon to mail a xmas exchange gift. Even though I had to pay bridge fare both ways and gas there and back plus US postage, it was still cheaper than mailing it with Canada Post to the states. Plus it's bound to arrive well before xmas unlike if I'd have sent it from Canada.

Anyhow, before I headed back across the bridge and home, I stopped at a couple retailers to check on prices for items I'd been looking at north of the border. To my amazement, the prices on the two items that I had price checked at home were either too close to make a stateside purchase worthwhile or else they were cheaper in Canuckistan. WOW! Talk about a flip flop in pricing.

Now these were for hardware items and tools, so I'm not sure if that same issue is relevent on sporting goods at locations such as Cabelas or Bass Pro, but still, it made me sit up and take notice.
