Does COLDER than the normal for your area affect deer movement? Right now it is colder than the normal for my area.....so I am wondering if that will affect deer movement????

Normal highs are 35-40

...........lows are 25-20

Current temp is 16 and only getting colder...

time high/low

3 pm 11/7

6 pm 9/7

9 pm 7/4

Oh and wind is blowing 20+.

Anyone have any experience or input on deer movement in COLDER than normal weather???

ABSOLUTELY it does!!! As a general rule, the colder it gets, the more they move. Deer move a lot when it snows too! They will hunker down at times if it gets really, really nasty. But most of the time, they move a lot in the cold!

Now hunting them when it gets harsh and extreme is a whole different animal. There are definitely things you have to adapt and prepare for. Especially if you bowhunt!

What will pin them down more than the cold or the snow will be the wind. But this morning here we have a blizzard and I've already seen about 7 deer just movin along the woodline/ridge line along my back yard. I know I could go out in the woods and see a more deer. And if I thought the wind has em bedded more, I'd stalk em.

So to answer your question in short: YEP! Good luck!

Gotta agree here. Seems like this cold weather we are having I am seeing more and more deer. They gotta eat to stay warm

This has ALWAYS been my thought too.....but recently I was told and read differently. I didn't agree, so I thought I would ask you guys.

Keep the input coming!!

I have always found that the most deer movement happens right before a storm and right after a storm...I have personally never had any luck hunting during a heavy snow, but the times before and right after always have deer on their feet.

In terms of cold weather, i agree that they will move more as long as the wind isn't screaming. Colder weather will make them feed more and longer, and at all times of the day...The only problem with cold weather is....well, its super cold and hard to sit in a stand long.

Good luck!

If it was just cold I would say it would get them moving but in my experience in this area the wind will make them bed up somewhere sheltered. It doesn't even take very high winds. When it is as windy as it is right now you usually just about have to walk right up and kick a deer to get it to move.

They absolutely move more , the colder it gets the more movement. I look forward to the late season just as much as the rut. In fact , I see more big bucks at this time of year than the rut. When the temps are down in the teens and single digits those deer are constantly on the move all day long including big bucks . The high winds will slow them down a bit because their more cautious, but still are on the move. I have seen them bed down 20-40 min. and then back up feeding and moving.
