redkneck
My lab is only about 13 months old and is in heat. She ran out today and may have been bred by the neighbor's dog. Isn't there something like the "morning after" pill for dogs to terminate potential pregnancy? I really dont want her to have pups at such a young age. brad dryden
Yes if she is you can get a pill to fix that.

dogdoc
There is a shot you can give within the first 72 hours after mating to prevent inplant of the fertilized egg. It is very effective but also can have some very nasty side effects. Visit with your vet for best recommendation. todd

I was thinking of breeding her at some point, and am not even sure she was bred but my wife seems to think so. I had ran out to Lowe's to put up a fence charger around the chain link fence in the back yard and that worked great, but the kids let her out today accidentally. One more question: What is the best age to safely breed a lab, and if she is pregnant at 13 months, do you think she'd have any problems? I've had a lot of labs, but only two females, and I had them fixed pretty early. Thanks guys.

redkneck
Yeah, I was thinking about two years would be better, or at least that's what I've heard. She's not much more than a big puppy right now. Thanks everybody.
jm23494
We are looking into breeding our two labs that we have. Ever since we got them we have been talking with our vet about it and they stated that they should be about 2 years old and also have their hips checked to make sure that they will not be passing on bad genes. Although it is a costly investment to get them checked it is in the best interest to any future puppies and owners. Best of luck.
