Jeramie
I have never been a hardcore duck hunter. I was more of a pond jumper (we have 13 ponds on my family's place). Ive always like jumping ducks and shooting them but have never really, really got into it. I went with a friend the first part of 09 and we set out decoys and hunted over them. We didnt have much luck but ended up jumping the ponds and got something like 8 ducks. Last week we went over decoys again and actually had good flight. Now im hooked... dang it. I had bought a new duck coat (Max 4) back in the spring on clearance for $29 but could I call it quits at that?! Nooooooo. I went Tuesday and bought a set of chest waders (bass pro has them on sale for $77, neoprene, 600 grams insulation). Today im headed back to BP to pickup a dozen decoys, a call, and some other gear. My wife is going to kill me for spending so much but ive got the bug BAD! I will be out Saturday for my first Solo hunt over Decoys. Hopefully this cold up north is pushing the green heads in! jesse8953
This is my first year to.I am lucky enough to have a brother and nephew that has been into it for a long time. They already have the boat, decoys, mojo, and calls.I am going to learn to call for next year.Cabelas has some great deals on layout blinds I ordered this yesterday.I used my nephews when he was at school one day.It is alot better than laying on the ground. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20712-cat20768&id=0074477420157a&navCount=1&podId=0074477&parentId=cat20768&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=9IS&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true I have learned motion is needed in a decoy spread when it is a calm day.Make you a jerk cord. This will add motion and won't cost you much to make. I'm going to make this for next season. http://www.takeem.com/decoys/tipper.php These tips might make your money stretch a little farther. dogdoc
Jeramie. Take all the stuff back and take some deep breaths. There are no ducks in Oklahoma. It is a very addicting sport. Good luck Saturday. Todd
Jeramie
Tell me about it! Ive spent $200 in two days.... RTF
Waterfowl hunting is one of the most expensive hunting sport out there. To be real successful one must spend money. When the ducks are flying it is the bomb. No doubt !
92xj
Just wait until you want a new shotgun, boat, goose decoys, a dog, layout blinds, more steel shot, and start buying real good calls. I am over the 3500 mark this year. I went all out on new gear. Since September I have purchased.... New gun Waders Parka 3 dozen decoys rigs for decoys gone through 12 boxs of 3.5s shells with 8 to go. 7 Foiles calls Blind bag and two guided hunts Yeah it gets expensive, but so worth it!!! jesse8953
I have spent about $750 this year, not including our Arkansas hunt after Christmas.I already had a new gun I got 2 years ago [870 express super mag in fall flight camo-free with points from cabelas] But my brother spent more than me.He got a nice set up.Now his pontoon/duck blind is for sale. Alisha
Before I came up here to NS..... I told Justin over and over that I would always prefer deer hunting over duck hunting. After going the first time, I was HOOKED! It's so addicting! We go after puddle ducks..... as well as sea ducks/divers on the ocean. Justin has 2 different boats, a layout boat, and he even built a sink box (which are legal here). Just think if you AND your wife were both into it.... you would need 2 of everything like we do. :bang: Enjoy!
