Turkeygirl
Ok, anyone own a GPS? Any recommendations on a GPS? My mom is wanting to get a GPS along with topo maps for it, as a gift for Andy. I told her I'd ask you all on here on your recommendations and input! Thanks! bostoned
Garmin or Delorme I have a garmin etrex legend and I'm in the market for a newer color gps and I'm looking at the newer garmins or a delorme. Those are 2 very good companies. Delorme makes the topo software and their gps units can overlay satellite imagery (like google maps) so you can see an actual picture of where you are located. They are a bit pricey though. The garmins are not all that difficult to use if you read the manual. Pretty simple to use and if you have problems, you can always call them and they have technical people available to talk to.

johnf
I've got the Garmin Venture. It's the step up from the etrex vista. Mine's got a usb port so you can download maps and upload your trips onto your computer. I've got some top maps that I downloaded for free and they are actually better than the Garmin maps. The only drawback is that your memory is limited, but I can get about 1/2 state of Arkansas on it. I'm guessing you could get most of Maine on it. A buddy of mine has the legend. It's got the electronic compass and he's got an 8g sd card in it. He's got the whole country on his and it's not even 1/2 filled up.

RangerClay
My wife got one then when she got her Blackberry curve she didn't need it anymore. Does your Mom have a cell phone? Maybe she could upgrade.
