coles
Just found out that my 11 year old yellow lab, Belle, had to be put to sleep. She has been at my parents house since i started college. She just got real old and had arthritis. Mom said that he hadnt eaten in a couple days and was breathing weird. Have countless memories with her from retrieving my first duck ever on a youth weekend when i was 12 all the way up until opening day of waterfowl season this year. You were a good old girl, you made alot of cold morning waiting for ducks warmer, my shotgun shoot straight, and my duck calls sound better. Ill miss you and love you with all my heart. RIP Belle

MNcrittergittr
Sorry to hear that man. That's tough, they love us unconditionally every single day, they don't care about bills, taxes or any other mundane day to day stresses. All they know is they love us and want to make us happy. Sorry to hear about your loss of a great friend.

coles
Thanks guys. Means alot to me. Im dealing with it pretty well. Its hard to stay upset when I have my 7 month old Yellow Lab Jaeger licking the tears from my face. He could tell something was wrong with me last night. Im sure it will hit me again though when i go home for Christmas break and see her empty kennel.
hammerforged
So sorry to hear this I know the pain you are going through right now and I honestly cannot say if it will get better soon. Mine still hurts but I just rely on my memories of coveys flushed, birds retrieved and warm evenings listening to some good music with him by my side. woolybear
Sorry to hear that. Know the feeling too well. Most days would rather be around my pooch over people. Tough loss.
Grant-KS
Really sorry for your loss man! I lost my huntin' buddy about a month ago and I still miss him like crazy. Glad to hear you have another up and coming dog, but no dog can ever truly take the place of your good ol' dog. Just remember all the good times you had together and start making memories with your pup!

redkneck
That really stinks Cole. I've been there a few times. I've been lucky to have some great hunting dogs over the years. Had to put a fiest down when he was 17, another fiest at 15, and the best hunting yellow lab with arthritis at 12. It's really hard, but like I tell my kids, if you can keep them over 8-10 years, they're on borrowed time, and just cherish the time you get to spend with them. Last year I had a chocolate get run over at one year old, but it's so much harder to have to put them down when they are just wore out and in pain so much. I really think dogs are a gift from God. Just got to go out and get another puppy when the time is right.
