Allright all you gun bunnies, I have tried to get more information on blackhills gold ammo (ballistics, trajectory) and have not been able to find it on their website. I am fixin to test the max limits on 168gr, BTHP match. I got dope out to 500 yards and want farther. One answer I did get is that it will drop at least -51.6 inchs at 500 yards with a +2.1 inch at 100 yards, what would be the zero?. The rifle is a Savage FPLE 110 with 22" heavy barrel. I got the rifle currently zeroed at 100 yards and it will touch 5 holes shooting off bipod at this range.

There are lots of variables to the equation but you would have a appx 200yd zero with what you stated. It would be appx 391 inches low at 1000 yds with a +2.1" 100 yd zero.

Ballistic charts are great guides but without exact data they fall a bit shortof being accurate when the ranges get way out there. I would strongly suggest you go out and shoot at the ranges you desire and keep records of everything.

Elevation, barometric pressure, temperature, sight height, actuall MV, bullet BC all play apart

I agree with Double A.

The Ballistics chart was made with a special barrel rifle, of a certain length and fired at a certain temperature.

Unless you had the exact same rifle and the exact temperature and weather conditions and was firing at the exact same shooting range - your results will vary.

Even a rifle that has been sighted in at 500 yards on a 70* day at 1000 feet in elevation, will hit in a different location if fired at a shooting range that is 3000 feet in elevation on a 60* day.

Here is a sample of the data..

from the Ballistics Explorer program I mentioned. I tried to use some of the information from the site and from what you told me. Using the information from this program on my 22-250, I was able to hit a target dead center at 645 yards with a gun zeroed at 100 yards. The target was a 2'x2' piece of wood. I was impressed.
