LifeNRA
Well, I am not the greatest tier. but I will say at least I caught some fish this past summer on the flies that I tied! Here are some of the midges I made. Along with the brassies I just tied tonight. The Black & Gold Midge I nicked named my Steeler Midge, LOL! I also have them tied in olive, and variations of each color with black, silver, gold, red, and glass beads.

muggs
Does using the Steelers midge cause you to lose 6 fish in a row? Nice lookin' ties, is that peacock herl in the top one?
Muleyman
Cool. Nice Job!
Jeramie
That would be a cool hobby. I cant imagine tying a fly without feathers or something though! What kind of fish are you going for with those and what do they imitate?
LifeNRA
Does using the Steelers midge cause you to lose 6 fish in a row? Nice lookin' ties, is that peacock herl in the top one? Well six Super Bowls Rings!!! LOL!!! Yes that is peacock hurl, very fragile stuff! You can't pull on it too hard, it breaks very easy. That would be a cool hobby. I cant imagine tying a fly without feathers or something though! What kind of fish are you going for with those and what do they imitate? These flies are mostly for trout, but they will catch other fish as well. As with all fish, their diet is mostly 90% below the surface. Fly fishing is not all catching fish on the surface, although that type of fishing is the most fun. These flies represent a midge breaking for the surface to start the cycle all over again. Midges are present in any body of water. Nymphs will catch more trout than any dry fly. But I would rather see surface action any day! But when the top water is not working, Ill be throwing something sub-surface. Being a bass fisherman, and using a fly rod for them as well. This is a whole different world here. I started in March with a friend from work who got me started in this. Not even having a trout rod to now I am tying flies! LOL! Actually catching your first fish on flies you tied was pretty cool. I got my vise I was looking at, a Peak. Whats pretty cool is all the info here on the net you can find on fly tying. I have many youtube links saved on various types of flies I want to tie. Planning on getting a few boxes filled before spring. Hopefully by then I will have some dry flies made by then, then I will be breaking out the feathers! flyrod64
Those are some good looking ties. One thing I have learned over the years about tying is they dont have to be perfect. If the fish will hit there good and theres nothing more satisifying than catching a fish o a fly you tied! Stay with it.
