Turkeygirl
I dunno why it's always my cats who get beatup...it's my sister who has the Vet tech. degree...lol. My cat came in today, my mom and sister call me, and he's got blood on the top of his nose. So I grab some gloves and antibiotic was stuff for people and wipe off the blood with that and warm water. Found what looks like a little bit of a nasty scrape or a puncture towards the right side of his nose...looks more like a puncture to me. It's also a little bit swollen along his cheek bone. My sister had to restrain him, he was not happy. Anyway put some antibiotic ointment on it, took him to my room where he's laying on my bed. Went to give him a treat but putting his head down, the gravity, must make his nose hurt...he acted al ittle weird, didn't want to eat. He's resting on my bed though, not acting like he's having trouble breathing..I even watched the spot where it looks like a puncture...didn't see any ointment bubbling up which would likely indicate it punctured all the way through (my guess based on human anatomy, lol). He sure as heck doesn't want my hand near his face though, but he was purring so hopefully that's a good sign. Hopefully he's ok in a day or so...This cat my mom got me a couple years ago around this time as a replacement for my first cat that I had to put down because of kidney stones...I love my cats so I worry when anything happens:angel2: Ok, sorry for the long post. Going to try and go find some rabbits to hunt.

Turkeygirl
Hoping maybe dogdoc sees this...I'm just wondering if it's easy for the bone of the nose to be easily puntured or not? Just got in, checked on him...still kinda grumpy...nose looks a little swollen and a swollen elow his eye...He's not acting like he can't breath...hoping there's not something that broke off like a thorn or something. I'll see how he is in the AM...maybe the swelling will have gone down some...poor guy...
Adjam5
Hope it gets better Ruth. Maybe an encounter with a porcupine?
Turkeygirl
I don't think so Adjam...I did find while rabbit hunting his tracks in our woods and the couple spots where he stopped and bled...walked his tracks backward, they came running from a fox den...there were also fresh fox tracks that ran away from there...I didn't really see anything that looked like they scuffled so I'm guessing maybe he got surprised, ran and got jabbed in the face by a hawthorn or stick or something...May be whatever went in ran under the skin along the bone and that's why it's swollen on his cheek as well... stevebeilgard
i'm surprised the fox didn't eat the cat. maybe he tried to, and kitty got lucky with just a sore nose. that puncture is probably a tooth mark.
redkneck
My cat keeps coming back home. :bang: I wish it would encounter something! My lab has the courtesy to beg for food, to come inside, etc. Kitty just demands things! I'm no fan of cats, but the kids would be upset if anything happened to her. Maybe that bear will come back this year....... :shifty:
Turkeygirl
Geesh red...so mean, lol Well he seems a little bit better today, swelling is down some...he's not begging to go outside though, lol. Hopefully he keeps improving over the next day or so..until then he's grounded to the indoors!

Maybe a just a touch of sarcasm there Ruth Would rather deal with a bossy cat than 2 crying girls and a new kitten!
NiteRunner
Poor thing. I would guess he got jabbed by something. Kinda sounds like what happens when one of my hunting dogs gets bit by a coon or stuck with a nasty thorn.
