I think I might be the only one on here that gets the point. I didn't read all the posts but it seems like you have touched a nerve that some people didn't want touched.

However, I have never lied on here. When I have done something unethical I have posted it for the world to see. As mentioned before there was only one perfect person on this world. I believe a person should always be responsible for their actions. If it is some thing you are too ashamed to admit to in public then don't do it and certanly don't pretend that you didn't do it.

I for one agree with him. Not the the extent of what he said but I truly do believe that just as much fiction exists as fact on here in general. Anyone would be very amiss to trust EVERYTHING people say that they really know nothing about......

Brad Paisley's song "online" sums it up.....

People can take it personal like so many have and I'm sure the person who posted it doesn't help, but that doesn't mean it isn't a valid point.....

Seems like a lot of stone throwing from glass houses people:hammer1:

I think the problem was the laundry list of things that this thread was opened with. What difference does it make if a member here has a ticket for whatever offense in the past, if the question is not asked in here, it certainly does not make that person a liar. Drawing similarities from a post that says "I won't shoot a deer passed 50 yards" (even though he just missed one at 55 the last weekend) is a far cry from shooting a deer at night and putting blood on the front to fool a GW.

I do agree with you though that folks will lean more thoughtfully toward posting what they know is right, regardless of what they really feel they'll do themselves, but also feel most folks in here pretty much follow the laws most of the time.......

I know I do. :D

I think your right about that....

It wasn't just the fact that he pretty much said everyone was unethical and did illegal things that bothered me. It was also the blatant generalization that he was so sure everyone here did certain things like shooting at deer 50 yards out or more...I've been bowhunting for almost 20 years and have never even thought of shooting my bow at a deer that far. Who the heck is this guy (who doesn't know me!), to tell me what he is so sure I've done?!

Yeah, maybe not everyone here is a saint, maybe there are some shady characters. Yeah maybe there is some harmless imbelishment from people from time to time. But man, he went overboard like he had a major axe to grind against all other hunters. Well, anyway it's not worth my time to worry about something so ridiculous.

I agree.....somewhat.

His second sentence accuses everybody of lying. Pretty bold statement. He threw the first stone.

And ethics are different in everyones eyes. If someone shot a deer 2min after 'shooting time'...I dont really care, but someone might. Its one thing to call someone out about something that obviously looks fishy, but to accuse the forum as a whole as a bunch of fibbers is a bunch of crap....especially from a guy who supposedly doesnt even hunt anymore.

Im not saying nobody has fibbed on here.....but to start a thread accusing everyone seems a bit overboard.

There are some great confessions and a possible ethical topic. I have learned in my 50 years of life that most folks are honest and do follow regulations weather they be hunting or fishing. Guilty myself of too many tree rats, ducks, fish, until my first runin with the men and women in the silver trucks 30 years ago. Thats like me telling the corner drug dealer I won't take you to jail, but we know different. Merry Christmas folks.

I agree that some folks on here try to act a little more perfect than they actually are...but to call out everyone and say they are liars when it comes to the way they hunt is silly.

I see your point on the first part of your post....but ya just killed yourself with the second part. I try to be myself to the best of my ability on this forum. That very fact has made me a target of attacks at times, and given me a rep as the forum jerk from time to time. But ask anyone who knows me on a personal level and they'll all tell ya I'm a bit rough around the edges. I don't try to disguise that on here one bit....even as a mod. Some folks on here are BIG time fake, but you can easlily see who those folks are. It's no big secret.

I hope ya get your chip off your shoulder stinger....otherwise I don't think your going to enjoy your visits to realtree very much.

man, i've read all the responses to this thread, and am still having a lot of trouble figuring out what the original purpose of this question or thread was...

anyone else struggling with that?

I'm not one to bash anyone, so this is not an attempt at doing so to the author of this thread...however, was this thread started in an effort to get members to admit of any or all wrong doing they have done in their hunting careers, or was this an attempt for members to fess up to anything they have said on here that was not 100% true? Or just to admit that they may have lied? Regardless, what is the point?

I have done some really really stupid things in my life - as most of us probably have...and not just in the field - but as a person and in life. Am i proud of them - no, did i learn from them, chances are that i did.

The difference between a hunter and a poacher most likely can be defined by the answers to your list of questions...and i would venture to guess that the majority if not all of the members on this forum are hunters.

and yes, i have taken a 50 yrd shot at a deer...and i will do it again if the situation and circumstances are right. Last time i checked, there wasn't a rule or regulation on distance to shoot at a deer with archery tackle. and yes, i have tresspassed before, both on accident and on purpose - not to hunt, but in an effort to recover an animal. I also got a ticket when i was 12 for shooting lead at waterfowl...i didnt' know it was lead, but you can bet your sweet cheeks i learned to make darn sure i had steele shot from that day on.

Seeing as how you have not responded to the countless posts regarding the validity and purpose of this thread, i am betting that you probably banned yourself after reading this.

Were you just trying to stir the pot?

Shot a few minutes early or later than legal. = Illegal/Poaching.Put more shots in your shotgun tube than the state allows. = Illegal/Poaching.

Shot something out of season. = Illegal/Poaching.

Shot something and then bought the tag for it later - Or - used someone else's tag. = Illegal/Poaching.

Didn't tag it at all. = Illegal/Poaching.

Trespassed on purpose, even if it was just to look. = Illegal.

Didn't wear orange when you should have - even after you were in a treestand. = Illegal = STUPID/DANGEROUS.

Illegally parked your car. ??

Drove on public land to get a deer instead of dragging it. ??

Shot a deer, then dragged it to the road and put blood on your headlights and told the police you hit it (yikes.) Are You Serious?! Illegal.

Are you working for P.E.T.A. or the Police now.. sounds like you are trying to make hunter look bad or get someone in trouble!?

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh yes I found it. Remember this? I surely do and I can tell you that if the mod group that was here before was still here you would be bannnnnnnnnnnnnned.

I actually never did that - but I thought about it.

ruttinbuc - you get a prize, my friend. Thanks for answering the way I had hoped people would, with a bit of honesty and humility (if that was the truth :-) )

Here is the scoop behind the post: BTW - you guys are hysterical. I actually didn't quit hunting, I was just venting on that post after a hysterical morning (looking back on it) - walked through a slightly flooded area and it turned into a sewage overflow. Had to throw the boots, pants underwear out and ended up hunting with just underwear, overalls and a t-shirt. It was frustrating to say the least. Also, to those that posted on that forum for me to hang in there - I did, thanks to you. I appreciate your support.

Back to the scoop: I just noticed that people I have hunted with - in 4 different states do not always follow every rule. I've hunting in groups where we party-hunted (me included), for example. Not only that - but everyone (EVERYONE) in the towns that I have visited admits it openly. However, you don't hear about that on this forum. Can we admit it here without getting into trouble? I don't know. Maybe everyone is afraid that they will get into legal trouble or their neighbor will find them on here saying they crossed over a fence into their property or something. Who knows.

So I began to wonder what the deal was - if I didn't post the absolute truth, then others didn't either. So, in effect - Yes, you are right, I've not followed the ethical route everytime - but I do consider myself an ethical hunter. I've thought long and hard about staying out 30 minutes later and have - but didn't take a shot or didn't get the opportunity. But you won't here about that on here - because everyone is taking the "Holier than though" approach. Myself included.

I think, to a certain extent, that is a good thing since new hunters will often brag about trespassing and shooting deer on someone else's property (hello, illegal) and those hunters (after being bashed) do not hang around.

For those who asked what my point was - I believe you were lashing out because you probably, like me, have skirted the law once or twice and were confronted with your ethical persona being outed.

I'm not looking for admissions, though - just a bit of humanity. We are all human. On this forum, we act like we are all saints. And the point of the post was to see... to break up the monotony of the ethical answers. I theorized that many answers on here were sanitized before being posted. I wanted to see if that is the case and you have proven that they are. When athletes give the canned responses - it gets boring and we all like to hear someone tell the truth (and then bash them for it)

As for the personal attacks - hysterical! I grew up with 9 kids in my family - you can't hurt my feelings, I've said it all and heard it all. Seriously hysterical.

Perhaps at least one of you will take a look at yourselves a bit more closely and wonder why you would attack someone that has been such a dedicated member of this forum for so long just because he asked an honest question. Pitiful. And really says more about you than it does about me. Some of you are Christians, too. LOL

Peace All! I love this forum and everyone on here - just mixing it up a bit.

BTW - I'll buy you a beer if you can tell me which buck you see below that may not have been taken... :angel1:
