Archery at its best

Hey why not it shooting an arrow. Seems like everthing acceptable today.

This is why I say keep archery compounds and unlock device weapons. Except for anyone who cannot pull a bow.

From the link:

Swivel Machine Works has a proven background in air powered guns that fire arrows. J. I. Galan reviewed their air powered Series 8 Airrow in Guns magazine back in July of 1989 and their model 8S1P Stealth in Gun Digest 1993.

Look out, they're taking over the bowhunting industry!!

You know what's funny, my 86 year old grandmother just started bowhunting because she just now realized crossbows are legal in Ohio.

She said, and this is a direct quote, "I wouldn't be bowhunting if it wasn't for crossbows."

So, you guys who say crossbows are okay, there's proof that ANYONE will bowhunt with a crossbow.

Is there going to be any room for us "primitive" compound shooters? I mean, we're the ones with the primitive skills. 80% let-offs, fiber optic bow sights, mechanical trigger releases, drop away rests....

WE'RE THE ONLY ONES WHO DESERVE TO BE OUT THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think our antler restriction argument fits well here Dan. If you ( not just you, alot of others as well ) think it's wrong to limit ( antler restrictions ) what a person can and can't shoot to fill their buck tag, then who are you to say what they can and can't consider archery hunting. You all argue that the trophy is in the eye of the beholder and it's not about the size of the buck that matters....right? Well then explain to me how someone shooting a crossbow is any different? Archery is all in the eye of the beholder too. Some might argue that only true archery is shooting recurves and longbows....some might consider compounds archery. And yes some consider crossbows to be archery. Just like some folks consider the only bucks that should be shot should be mature 4.5 and older 150 inch or better bucks, while others are happy with a nice racked buck, and yet some are happy if it's got male anatomy. As long as they are happy with the deer, or in this case how they harvest it and it's done legally......then how can you be against antler restrictions, yet be for restrictions in a method of archery?

i can see not allowing that into the bow season. but your trying to say that thats what bowhunting will come down to if you allow crossbows into archery season? buddy i know you live in Oklahoma, but they have allowed crossbows during archery season for a long time in many other states and it hasnt runied bowhunting at all.

what about this rig for bowhunting. im sure if the traditional guys saw this coming they would have never allowed compounds into bowhunting.

So your all for Iowa going to crossbows today and what they build in the future for Iowa? Sometimes we make laws for good reasons in hunting. Everthing not acceptable for all seasons. Unlimited is what you can do with weapons with locking devices. I happy with Oklahomas current law on crossbows and support them for handicapp hunter only.

Your bow dont have a locking device, looks Ok by me.

Anyone who cant pull a compound bow back. Other wise grap a bow and go hunt during archery season. You can use those crossbows during gun rifle season. I use my compound during that time.

Its not my call on crossbows. But I know what some of the engineers said they can and will make if crossbows are legal across the US. Put a locking device on any weapon and your capable of making a mass construction weapon. One must make a stand and vote how he feels is best for everyone. I suggest if you want it vote for it. Im not voting for crossbows in Oklahoma. I think what we got now works for are state. Most can get a crossbow permit if they want it. You got to draw the line somewhere or why not allow any weapon for ever season.

Dude, stop patting yourself on the back. Shooting a modern compound bow is easy....very easy.

Why

why does this argument keep happening? did someone shooting a crossbow steal your hunting spot? I shoot compound and crossbow... both have their advantages and disadvantages. Unless someone is stealing your spot don't worry about what others do.

Are state wildlife agency ask for hunters input and as hunters we have the right to bring it up. Oklahoma bowhunting council has fought this for years. Some hunters just let everthing happen. Some get envvoled and place there opionions which is what should happen. I would quess you dont vote. Your state made the move and thats fine with you. Oklahoma has not and I hope we dont. My opionion. Quess guns would be fine in archery with you?

There's bigger fish to fry out there in the world, why argue over something so petty? I agree with swohiodave, if crossbows aren't interferring with your hunting locales, then why worry about it? The things were legalized here in Texas this season for everyone to use and you can't tell a bit of difference.

As far as this gun thingy that flings arrows - i'd so no way Jose...if it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, its a duck.

Crossbows are something of a different challenge. Have you ever shot one? Seriously, it ain't the cake walk people make it out to be...not even close. The range on a cross bow is nothing compared to that of the new age compounds...The compound bows now can kill animals such as elk, deer, antelope and others out to 70 + yds...To even consider shooting at one of these animals with a cross bow that far and expecting to kill it is extrememly far fetched and very non realistic.

I've shot several crossbows with friends that have em...they are tough to shoot. I'd much rather have my mathews in my hands than any crossbow any day of the week. They are extremely hard to keep steady, you don't have any anchor points, its not like shooting a gun because you don't have a "barrel" on it that will guide your arrow...if anything, a crossbow is more like a handgun - effective at close range PERIOD.

They are legal in IL, and i support the legalities behind who can use them. I have a friend who just turned 62...he's been wanting to go bow hunting for the last 4 years, but hasn't been able to pull his long bow back. He got a cross bow this year, and he is happier than a kid at christmas. People who have injuries are also allowed to use them, which is great, they should not be limited or even disgarded from archery hunting due to an injury.

Even if i did have a choice to shoot a crossbow or my compound, i wouldn't even consider shooting a crossbow...If anything, it puts people at a disadvantage compared to anyone using a compound. But hey, at least its getting more people back in the woods who love the sport, and thats what its all about, right?

Crossbows

Ughhh, this has got to be the worst arguement ever.....:bang:  Have you ever shot a crossbow? Effective range is the same as a compound bow, no more. I'm done looking at this thread, it's pointless IMO.
Yes I have shot more than one crossbow. I also know how they will continue to push the limits with them in the future. Glad there working in your state. But archers here have shown with there oppositions they like Oklahoma laws the way they are. Crossbows for those who are handicapped or cant draw a bow. Have you ever shot this crossbow? Ohio dont even allow rifles! Think each state should choose what works best for it.
