Jorden
Today was the final straw!!!! I will never again buy another Cuddeback camera. I called today because I needed to to send in my Capture because the metal piece that holds the battery in place snapped off and I wanted to send it in to get it repaired. The lady told me it wasnt under warrenty and that it would cost $75 plus $10 shipping to get it repaired...all to re-attach a metal piece no bigger that the tip of my pinky finger. I told her screw that, I would rather toss the camera in the garbage than pay $85 to repair that tiny piece. :hammer1: I am forever done with Cuddeback. The first two Cuddebacks we had we bought 5 years ago. We had to send those in twice to get repaired and now they do not work at all. 2 years ago we bought our capture, and have already sent it once for a sensor malfunction and now it is broken again.:bang: Cuddeback raves about their battery life but I have to change the batteries in our cameras on average once a month, even during summer, and in winter its even more often. We have friends with other cameras who have to change them once a year. So if any one has any suggestions for a better camera I would be willing to hear them. Is homebrew better than buying a brand name one? Also if anyone has any ideas on how to repair my capture or if anyone repairs trail cams please let me know. Thanks guys for listening to my rant. Turkeygirl
Ouch....A neighbor got a Cuddeback and he returned his, didn't like it, said it was horrible on batteries and what not. I have a Scoutguard 550 cam...not really any issues with it...great customer service. I've heard good things about Moultrie as well
Tony
both of my Cuddeback Captures are working hard and working perfectly. they have been out in -5 degree weather and they still take great pictures. they both have the same batteries in when i put them out. 1 has been out since the 3rd week in sept. i couldnt be happier with mine. i plan on buying another one. dont throw them in the garbage, send me a pm and pictures of them and i will make you an offer for them. Tony I would never throw them in the garbage, thats just what I told the women on the phone. I love the cuddebacks when they work but they have just been too inconsistant for me and their customer service has been awful. I have no idea why the batteries dont last very long but they dont and it is extremely frustratin.:bang:
TBow
I thought that Cuddeback was supposed to have come up with a software adjustment that adressed the "battery eating" characteristic of some of the older units. You might even want to check with the company (ya I know, you'd rather not after the last call) to see if there was a recall for that software upgrade or if you can do it from your own PC. Just curious, what delay do you have it set for between pics? If the delay was too short, then you might be getting a lot of pictures activated by one pass of a single animal, which would use a lot of battery juice. That may not be the case, but you didn't mention anything about that, so I'm just brainstorming now! TBow

wtnhunt
Is homebrew better than buying a brand name one? Also if anyone has any ideas on how to repair my capture or if anyone repairs trail cams please let me know. Thanks guys for listening to my rant. Don't have a clue on the capture Jordan. Possible someone handy might be able to fix it from your description but honestly don't know without seeing it. Take some pics and show us what you are talking about, might have a suggestion. Are homebrews better? I like mine, I have 4 right now. Sure you have seen some of the pics I have posted. All but one of my cams are 4.1 mp cams. I think they take pretty good pics and are pretty fast too. Some of these newer cams out are probably a little faster than my homebrews. Far as the durability, I do have issues with my homebrews from time to time, the most common are simple for me to repair and I can usually get the cam right back out in the field within a very short time. JackedUpZ71
So if any one has any suggestions for a better camera I would be willing to hear them. Is homebrew better than buying a brand name one? Reconyx! Super fast trigger and good battery life. A little pricey, but well worth it in my opinion. On one set of batteries mine has taken well over 3000 pictures. Leaf River also makes a good camera. For the price I think it is a pretty good camera. I had a problem with mine keeping date and time, so I contacted them and there customer service was awesome.
Muleyman
That is a suprise! Everyone I have talked to or when I have seen the reviews on Cabela's no one seems to have any problems. Get the Moultrie D40, it is well priced and works AMAZING!
RangerClay
Years ago it seemed like every week someone was complaining about Cuddy customer service. I figured that the problem was solved since it's been so quiet. I guessed wrong.
