Bowtech_archer07
Ok, so I have worn Brahma 8" lace up steel toe work boots for the past 6 or 7 years. The last 2 pairs I have had have not lasted longer than 3 months each. So I switched and last time I bought a pair of Herman Survivor 8" lace up steel toe work boots. Well I was cleaning them up today and noticed that the sole is separating from the main part of the boot. I was wondering what boots y'all wear. I wear anywhere from a size 13-15, depending on the boot but I need something reasonably priced and definitely steel toe and 8" tall that is also going to last. I would be willing to spend $100 or so on a pair of boots if I knew that I was going to get 2 years of good work out of them. The last 3 pairs combined have cost about $130 and I have gotten a total of about 7 months of work so needless to say I'm not really happy with the performance. Any suggestions??? Leo
Back when I wore work boots almost everyday I couldn't get a pair of lace ups to last much longer than 3 months either. I switched to slip on type Wellingtons and would still wear the soles out in three months but they were cheaper to resole than replace. Typically the new soles were better than the originals and would last much longer (sometimes a year). You can get steel toe Wellingtons for pretty reasonable prices. The uppers on these style boots last much better than lace ups in my experience. Basspro used to carry a Wellington Steel toe in their Redhead line. They don't anymore as far as I can tell. Too bad that was a good boot at a great price. I've had the Redhead Wellingtons resoled as many as three times. I like my Georgia Boots now but I am not even close to being as tough on boots as I used to be, so I can't for sure say how tough these boots rate. HUNTINGMAN
I do alot of walking in my work boots and they are in all kinds of weather.I had a pair of Rocky Iron Clad lace ups and got two years out of them and they were still in decent shape I just wore a hole in the toe.I liked them and they werent but around 120$.I wanted something water proof though so I went with the Daner Journeymans this time,I have had them for about a year now and they have been great boots and fit like tennis shoes and have a goretex lineing in them.I foound a place online that has quality boots at a reasonable price.I plan on getting a new pair at the first of the year even though I still have a lot of wear left in the ones I have now.The place I work at pays 100$ on our safety toe boots so why not get some,I will be going back with Danner but will be getting the quary 2.0 this time,I think there 200$.I know its hard to spend the money sometimes but a good pair of workboots is something that is a wise investment and it can make your day better especially on concrete.Might as well spend the money on a good pair that will last 2 or 3 years as to have to buy a pair every 4 months or so. redkneck
Wolverine durashocks is all I wear. I work in a plant where there's always power steering fluid on the floor somewhere, and the soles hold up great where some of the other I've tried will get eat up by the oil. I walk a lot, they are comfortable, and I wear them every day of the year at work, even working around the house on the weekends some. I get usually about 15 months or so out of them before they need to be replaced. I'm on about my 6th pair now in the last ten years, and I wont be switching anytime soon. Gator
I'm hard on boots as well. The pair I have right now are Danner Steel toes. Think I have gotten about 6-7 months out of them, and they are ready to be retired, but so am I, so I am just waiting. I've worn Justins, which were ok, and my first pair were Wolverines, and I HATED those!!! This seems to be about the best pair yet. I say spend a little more and get a GOOD pair, your feet and knees will thank you later

NS whitetail
This is what I wear while out on the ocean lobster fishing. They are an awesome boot, the last pair I had for 5 years. Little expensive at around $200, but well worth the money. They have steel toe Features Insulation against cold Waterproof Description Resistant to temp down to -40c Oil resistant EN345

My last pair of work boots was a pair of Carolina's(sp?). Love em wore out a little fast but I wear boots daily. Do all my work in them. Got to agree on the Wolverines had a pair had the left sole almost ripped clear off the front in no time and they fell apart all over after that. These are the ones I'm talking about. I'm pretty rough on boots too, I'll leave work and go to the woods through the mud with these and they get rode hard and put up wet. You may rip the sole off these, but you'll be over a year doing it. http://www.grayandholtclothing.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=WOLVERINE-3122&click=
Adjam5
Hmmm... don't anyone wear Red Wings for work boots? I have worn these boots for about 15 tears now and maybe on my 4th or 5th pair. I keep getting them resoled til the uppers give out. The uppers last about 5 years with proper care. They are still hand made here in the US, but be careful. They have imported Red Wings also.
wtnhunt
Not a fan of rocky boots for hunting boots, but did like the pair of "worksmart" steel toes I had when I was working in a factory. They were a bit on the heavy side, but they were fairly comfortable. Cabelas has some lines of work boots, not sure who makes them, but if they are anything like cabelas other lines of hunting boots and hikers they may be worth checking out. I have become a really big fan of cabelas boots, priced right and good quality.
Mooresville Rocket
When you work in a machine shop and walk around in steel chips all day, the shoes with the least amount of tread and the thickest soles lasts the longest. You get what you pay for. You buy cheap boots - they aren't going to last very long. Most shoes today are not made in the USA anymore and most soles on the bottom of the shoes has at least part plastic and not rubber soled anymore. Rocky boots are made for hunting and not for working and they do not last very long and half of them have the plastic sole and the ones that has the rubber sole, the rubber falls apart after a couple of seasons. The best Bang for the Buck is Carolina boots - but you are not going to get them for under $100 I just bought a set of Irish Setter 882 Elk Tracker boots for hunting with 1000 grams of thinsulate and I spent over $200 for them. I could have bought them cheaper in a different store, but I had a pair of Rocky boots that fell apart and took them back and got a second pair of Rocky boots that leaked and took them back and I was willing to pay what ever it took to get a pair of boots that fit that did not leak and guess what - they leak! If I would have water proofed them I guess they probably would be ok, but if they have Thinsulate with a oil impregnated leather, you shouldn't have to water proof them yourself until the original coating wears out. Depending on where you live, you will pay more or less for what I bought. There was a guy that came around to the machine shops and sold a shoe that lasted a long time, but I cannot remember the name of the shoe he sold. Red Wing or Danner or one of the other high end companies is always a good choice. http://www.carolinashoe.com/ http://www.danner.com/ You don't want your shoes to last a long time, the reason being that you want your shoes to wear out so that it absorbs the shock of your foot hitting the ground when you walk and you want it to cushion your foot when you stand for long periods of time and you want them to grip the surface you are walking on. If they have no traction, they are no good on wet surfaces or slippery surfaces. Once they start to wear on the bottom to one side or the other, they will make your back hurt or make you walk funny which will wear out your joints.
