Turkeygirl
Anyone got their's picked out yet? Was out yesterday putting my trail cam and retrieving a stand...turkeys have been hitting a corn field good along with the deer. so I wanted to put my trail cam by the field...instead put it down in the woods a little bit. Anyway standing on the field edge when I start hearing some turkeys talking, so I try making some yelps with my mouth. A see a bird pop over the hill in the field then 2 small ones come out as well. He got a little closer and I could see a nice beard hanging from his chest....yup, he's what I want come May 1, 2010:ninja: Hope I can get him on my cam, see how he really looks. And this is the same field where I got my 2009 bird...good spot. they always seem to come back to the area in the winter and then hang around in the spring:)
Strut10
Anyone got their's picked out yet? Good Lord, girl, no!!!! If I start thinking about May in December, I'll never live until January. You know........like the old saying about a watched pot never boiling???? Same principle. I used to go to the NWTF's national convention every year in February. Even that was a strain on my system. Don't get me started on turkeys in December. I'll lose what's left of my mind. maytom
A little too early to think about spring turkeys!!! Best part, is that he's still got to make it through the winter!! I don't start getting excited until late march early april!!!By that time, there's a good chance that they will make it to the spring!! Dakota
I don't even know what my plans are for the spring. I might try to make it out to the Black Hills for some Merriams, but most likely I'll be bowhunting Easterns close to home and putting my preference in for a Lincoln Co. shotgun tag (had to eat mine this year, that tends to happen when the turkeys kick your butt and your suburban breaks down the last day of the season). Things are looking a little bleak this coming spring. Dakota

fly
I got a great spot that I saw about a dozen turkeys this deer season. A yote was chasing one of them, thanks to me it got away! They are always in this particular valley year in and year out.

Rhino
LOL..yeah I know...whatever walks up and has a beard is dead... Not exactly...they have to be mature (at least 2 year old gobblers). but hey, at least I know there's a nice one around somewhere... That is good to know in your neck of the woods Ruth. Seems like they are a lot harder to find up there than they are down here.

western NY bowhunter
I'm staring to get the spring fever bad! All last week there was a flock of around 50 birds hanging out on a farm that I hunt just up the road. It was a beautiful sight seeing 21 longbeards picking out in the field together. The birds on this place whipped my butt last spring...hoping to get some payback on a couple of them in '10. Looks like there will be a ton of hens to content with again this spring. pointing_dogs_rule
Never picked one particular bird out before Ruth. My attitude has always been "First Come, First Served". Rhino has the same theory as me. How the heck can anyone tell the difference between birds (except jakes, toms and multibeards)?? All look the same to me and taste the same. good luck to all the dog
