redkneck
This same time last year was amazing, but we're just not seeing much at all last week or two. A few small basket racks, but several trips out without seeing a deer which is pretty odd. Anybody else got a report from the south?
rhine16
Been slow the last few days for me, but not for everyone around here. I helped a guy drag out an 8 point that'll go 140 easy this morning... only 15 inches wide but 23" beams and 6" bases. Another guy killed an 18 point this morning not far from here... haven't seen him yet, but don't think he was that great of a deer. I have hunted 6 hours minimum every day since Tuesday a week ago, Dec 8th. I've seen 11 different bucks in that time... the best was a 3 year old 8 point, tall and heavy, but mighty narrow. I elected to hold my draw as he walked by me at 8 yards. I'll try to give him one more year. I think the rut will really kick in in the next few days. Dec 21-Jan 5 are the days I call the "peak" each year... we'll see.
Turkeygirl
Keep at it, things will pick up for you. Sometimes you just have those lulls in deer movement. And like alot of people tell me...it only takes a minute...or a second for things to change!

redkneck
I'll get back at it today and will have some more vacation time to burn this week and next week. Everybody talks about late season, but this is our prime down here. Late season to us is after Jan 15th or so. Things will pick up soon I hope. wtnhunt
Don't know if you count us as south or not John, but things here have been pretty slow too, seems we have had a season long lul. Did have some secondary rutting action last week mid week with a young doe that was hot and got lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time on that wide 8 I killed Saturday morning, other than that we are not seeing much of nothing. We got a pretty good idea why things have been slow for us though.
