Out with a BANG....BANG!

Well I thought season was over after the last doe but I guess not. Here's #2 for the late season with the ML I took today about 1/2 hr before dark.

I sat a well used trail heading to the big stand of pines they like to bed in. She came in like a ghost and just appeared before my eyes. Kept hearing some crunching in the snow but couldn't pinpoint the source. She stepped up out of a little gully and on to the trail where I shouldered the ML and drilled her.

She dropped on the spot but was still very alive. The shot hit high just above the lungs. She was craning her head bellowing so I hurried to load another round. At this point she mustered enough in her to roll down the gully and get stuck in the mud at the bottom. I don't think she was going anywhere at that point but her head was still up so I put another one right behind her shoulder from top of the hill.

I am done now and can say that this has been one helluva a season for me with 4 down. What great memmories I made out there all by my lonesome. Amazing how nature can bring such a sence of peacefullness and complacency with nothing else around. Most folks would be bored out of there minds after the first few hours of season. After 3 straight months of being out there every day...I wouldn't trade a minute of it for the world. :)

Late ML season ends here tomorrow. Next up shed season! ;)

Way to get out there when most are thinking about next year!

As far as $$$$ goes, why don't you butcher your own deer? It isn't that hard. We turn it into a fun time with the guys and help each other when ever someone kills one. It works nicely.

Have done my own before, just too time consuming for me and with my recent move this year I lack a good clean facility and equipment to hang and cut efficiently without having to sacrifice hunt time. For $70 all I need to do is field dress and deliver. Meat is boneless, trimmed, wrapped and ready for the freezer with a impressively proffesional "fresh from the market" appeal to it. Having no access to a smoker, I get my jerky, peppersticks, and sausage taken care of at the same time.

It's actually worth it for me to do it this way and my processor has more helpfull friends than myself when the meat begins to pile up:cell:

I really can't complain.

nice job what kind of ML is that?
