jaxxson
I just made an uneducated purchase from e-bay.I haven't shot a bow in years and I wanted a new hobby.I bought an old Ben Pearson recurve and it looks like the limbs may be a little warped. How much if any is ok and how much affect on shootability and accuracy does this have? JimPic
A bow with a twisted limb can become unstrung while shooting or even break. You can straighten the limbs out if it isn't too severe. You can try a couple of things to do this. Run the twisted limb under hot water...not scalding, just good and hot. Twist the limb in the opposite direction of the twist and hold it like that for a minute or so then run the limb under cold water. This will set it. You may have to do this a few times before the twist straightens out. You could also use a blow dryer to heat the limb up and twist the same as the first way. Either way, just take your time and work it slow. Those old Pearsons were nice shooters. Also, don't stand the bow up on it's end...that's most likely how it got twisted in the 1st place
jaxxson
So you think I might be able to salvage the bow?I take it these problems are normal for an older recurve and I should not give up on it.

jaxxson
:stupid:Ha Ha I think it's given that I'm hardheaded.I've tried the hot water trick a few times now and it looks like the tips aren't as twisted but it still doesn't sit completely flat on the floor unstrung. Is that what I should be going for? Then you keep twisting it the other way til she's straight. It takes a long time for a twist to set in so it'll take a little work to get it out. Also, instead of laying it on the floor, look down the limbs nock to nock on the belly side(side that faces you when holding it)to see how it's twisted
